Acrobat 8 Professional or Adobe Reader 8 crashes 10 seconds after you start the application (Mac OS)

After you start Adobe Acrobat 8 on Mac OS, the application quits without warning. The Acrobat crash log contains the following , error: runtime_error: Unable to determine registration filepath!.

Do one or more of the following solutions:

Download the UpdaterPlugInWithFrameworkFix.dmg file and save it to your desktop.

Locate Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional or Adobe Reader 8 in your Applications folder.

Right-click or control-click on the application and choose "Show Package Contents" from the context menu.

Open the "Contents" folder then open the "Plug-ins" folder.

Double-click the UpdaterPlugInWithFrameworkFix.dmg file which will mount a volume named Updater Plug-in With 317 Framework.

Copy new Updater.acroplugin folder from the mounted volume to the Plug-ins folder.

A message may pop up stating "A newer item named "Updater.acroplugin" already exists in this location. Do you want to replace it with the older one you are moving?" Click Replace to complete the installation.

Close the window "Plug-ins" Window.

Start Acrobat or Adobe Reader.

Navigate to where Acrobat or Adobe Reader is installed on your computer.

Select the application icon and select File > Get Info from the Finder menu.

Under the Plug-ins section, scroll down to Updater.acroplugin and un-check the checkbox .

Start Acrobat or Adobe Reader.

A problem was found with the plug-in that installs with Acrobat 8 Professional and Adobe Reader 8 that causes the applications to quit unexpectedly. In some cases, the new plug-in resolves this problem.
