When you scan documents into Acrobat 9.1 and later, you receive a Windows Data Execution Protection (DEP) error and Acrobat closes.
What's covered
Disable Windows DEP. Before disabling DEP, see the Microsoft Knowledgebase article 875352 to make an informed decision.
If disabling DEP is not an option:
Scan the image into another application as a TIFFfile, and then convert the TIFF file to a PDF file.
To convert a TIFF file to PDF, do one of the following procedures:
-- Drag the TIFF file onto the Acrobat icon.
-- In Acrobat, choose File > Create PDF > From File, select the TIFF file, and then click Open.
-- In the scanner software, print the TIFF file to the Adobe PDF Printer.
This issue is related to the scanner driver. Specifically, the scanner driver your system is using is not DEP compatible. It's possible that the manufacturer of the scanner you are using discontinued it and no further driver updates have been released. Contact your scanner manufacturer directly to request further action.
This issue occurs primarily with Ricoh scanners. Scanners known to cause DEP errors when scanning with Acrobat 9.x include:
- Ricoh 2232
- Ricoh 3224C
- Ricoh AFLCIO 1022
- Ricoh IS330DC
- Lanier 5622
