Update, patch | Acrobat, Reader 7.x - 9.x | Windows

Acrobat updates are always MSPs. Reader updates can be MSP, MSI, or EXE files depending on the download source and release type. Tailor deployments to current enterprise requirements. Enterprise users typically use the msp/msi installers from the enterprise FTP site at ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/. 

The Acrobat Enterprise Administration Guide and an Updating Quick Key are now available from the enterprise portal. Before continuing, read these documents and make sure that you understand which installers your setup requires. In general, Reader updates are as follows:

• Incremental installers are MSP files (usually under 12 MB)
• Full installers are MSI or EXE files (usually from 25 through 50 MB)
• Some Reader quarterly updates are full installers.
• Quarterly MSIs include updates back to the base release.
• Quarterly MSPs include previous out-of-cycle patches released after the last quarterly. Therefore, quarterly updates can be applied on previous quarterly releases. Skip intermediate Out-of-Cycle releases.
• Full Reader installers (MSIs) are available when the second version number increments.
• Out of cycle MSP security patches include minimal or no functional updating with the intention to limit impact.

Administration Installation Point (AIP) deployments must not apply a quarterly update AIP in which a security update was the most recently applied update. Because a quarterly update includes the changes implemented in all recent security updates, the quarterly update forcibly bypasses those updates entirely. To deploy a quarterly update from an AIP, create a AIP which includes only quarterly updates as follows:

Note: Attempting to create an AIP using the last configuration fails to prevent the use of updates that Adobe does not recommend.

Always change directories and run the patches FROM the AIP directory.

Product versions 7.x are no longer supported.

Note: Adobe Reader 7.1.0 was a Full Installer only; no patch was produced.

The oldest patch shown above for Acrobat Version 7 is 7.1.0. Previous patches were released between the 7.0.0 original product and the 7.1.0 patch. However, Adobe recommends that any current customer deploying version 7 bypass the interim patches. Step directly to 7.1.0 and beyond.
