On April 24, 2003, Microsoft announced the availability of the Windows 2003 operating system. As the general policy of Macromedia for server products is to provide support for new versions of major platforms within 60-90 days of availability, we have focused our development efforts on supporting Windows 2003 for ColdFusion MX.

All required development work and testing has been completed. ColdFusion MX 6.1 and ColdFusion 5 support Windows 2003 and IIS 6.0. Out-of-the-box support for this configuration is provided with ColdFusion MX 6.1. For ColdFusion 5, this TechNote provides the steps necessary to install and configure ColdFusion with Windows 2003 and IIS 6.

Please note: Macromedia ClusterCats and the ColdFusion Application Management components are not supported on this platform.

ColdFusion MX 6.1

  1. Download the ColdFusion MX 6.1 Updater.
  2. Install the Updater. ColdFusion will be able to detect and configure IIS 6.

ColdFusion 5

  1. Install ColdFusion 5. ColdFusion pages will not process correctly at this point.

Note: Choose 'Continue' at the prompt stating the install is being done on an unsupported platform. Also, select 'Other' for the webserver, as IIS will not be detected.
  2. Add a Web Service Extension to IIS for ColdFusion.
    1. Run IIS Manager.
    2. Open Web Service Extensions, and click on "Add a New Web service extension."
    3. Type in a name for your web service extension (Coldfusion is a good one), and then type the path to the connector (c:\cfusion\bin\iscf.dll).
    4. Make sure that the extension status is set to allow, then click"ok".

  3. Enable iscf.dll as a Required File in the Web Service.

  4. Map .cfm and .dbm to the iscf.dll extension.
    1. Click the "Home Directory" tab.
    2. Click the "Configuration" button. The "Mappings" tab should be on top.
    3. Click the "Add" button.
    4. The executable should be c:\cfusion\bin\iscf.dll (or wherever it's installed) and the extension is ".cfm".
    5. Repeat steps c and d, this time substituting .dbm for .cfm for the extension. Note: This step is purely for backwards compatibility with the previous ColdFusion extension naming nomenclature (.dbm instead of .cfm). It is recommended that you simply rename any templates with a .dbm extension to .cfm and omit this step.

  5. Restart ColdFusion.
