Error "...Installer Database is Corrupt..." when installing Adobe Creative Suite 3 products

Issue

When you attempt to install Adobe Creative Suite 3, you see the error message, "The Installer Database is corrupt. Please Contact Adobe Customer Service if this problem continues."

Solutions

Do one or more of the following solutions:

Solution 1: Delete the CAPS database and install Adobe Creative Suite 3.

  1. Attempt to uninstall any Adobe Creative Suite 3 products that are on the machine using the uninstaller
    • On Windows XP:
      1. Click Start > Control Panel and double click Add or Remove Program.
      2. Select the Adobe Creative Suite 3 product and click Remove.
      3. Follow the on screen instructions.
    • On Windows Vista:
      1. Click Start > Control Panel and double click Programs and Features.
      2. Select the Adobe Creative Suite 3 product and click Uninstall.
    • On Mac OS:
      1. Run the Adobe Creative Suite 3 product uninstaller located in /Applications/Utilities/Adobe Utilities.
      2. Follow the on screen instructions.
  2. Delete the Caps folder if you are unable to delete the Adobe Creative Suite 3 product or they are not listed.
    • On Windows:

      Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\caps\caps.db

      Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\backup\caps.db
    • On Mac OS:

      /Library/Application Support/Adobe/caps

      /Library/Application Support/Adobe/backup
  3. Install the Adobe Creative Suite 3 product.

Solution 2: Manually remove Adobe Creative Suite 3 components and install Adobe Creative Suite 3.

  1. Refer to the manual removal documentation for the version of the Adobe Creative Suite 3 you are attempting to install.
  2. Verify all components mentioned in the document have been removed and then install the Adobe Creative Suite.

Additional Information

The CAPS database can become corrupt and generate this error message. Removing the CAPS database should allow you to install Adobe Creative Suite 3 without the error messages. Occasionally it is necessary to do a more thorough removal of Adobe Creative Suite 3 components.
