For most users, the default method of uninstalling Dreamweaver MX 2004 and Dreamweaver MX through Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs works fine. However, if you are experiencing crashes, errors or other unexpected behavior, then go through the following steps to ensure a complete uninstall followed by a reinstall in Safe Mode.
- Open Dreamweaver and backup your Dreamweaver site definitions by choosing Site > Manage Sites > select your sites > click the Export button. For more information on backing up sites, see Importing and exporting sites in the Using Dreamweaver LiveDocs. If you want to backup other Dreamweaver customizations, see Backing up and restoring Dreamweaver settings (TechNote 18736).
- If you are uninstalling Dreamweaver in order to troubleshoot a problem, we recommend you delete your user configuration settings in case they have become corrupt. Select Yes when this prompt appears: "Do you also want to uninstall Dreamweaver MX 2004 preference and configuration files for all users on this computer?"
- After the uninstall process has completed, browse your hard drive and verify that the following folders have been deleted. Manually delete them if they are still present:
- C:\Program Files\Macromedia\Dreamweaver MX[2004]
- C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Macromedia\Dreamweaver MX [2004]
- C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Macromedia\Common\2004
- Delete the following files from C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\, if the Dreamweaver uninstaller did not automatically remove them:
- Dreamweaver MX 2004:{05BB2EC5-6BEF-4DDC-9E75-BEE7B161157A}
- Dreamweaver MX 6.1:{E144C1BB-91D5-4B9D-ABDB-CDE01EA83595}
- Dreamweaver MX:{8B4AB829-DFD3-436D-B808-D9733D76C590}
- Extension Manager:{A5BA14E0-7384-11D4-BAE7-00409631A2C8}
- Dreamweaver UltraDev 4:{ABDA9912-5D00-11D4-BAE7-9367CA097955}
- Right-click the Recycle Bin icon on the desktop and select Empty Recycle Bin.
Warning about steps 12 & 13: Editing the Windows Registry incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require reinstalling your operating system. Adobe does not guarantee that problems caused by editing the registry incorrectly can be resolved. Edit the registry at your own risk.
- Go to Start > Run > type "regedit" > and delete this registry key which holds your Dreamweaver, Flash and Fireworks site definitions. This key applies to MX 2004 but not MX. When you uninstall MX 2004, it never removes your site definitions. This can be problematic if a site definition has become corrupted. You need to go into the registry and manually delete the Sites key if you want to remove them:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Macromedia\Common\2004\Sites
While in the registry, also verify that the following keys have been deleted by the uninstall process. Manually delete them if they are still present:- HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Macromedia\Dreamweaver [6 or MX 2004]
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Macromedia\Dreamweaver\[6 or 7]
- After completing the steps above, reinstall Dreamweaver MX or MX 2004 with your anti-virus software disabled. If you uninstalled Dreamweaver MX or MX 2004 in order to troubleshoot a problem, then re-install Dreamweaver in Safe Mode as described inInstalling Dreamweaver MX / MX 2004 in Safe Mode on Windows (TechNote 362eefb2).
