Overview

Adobe Drive is a product that enables seamless integration of an asset-management system with Adobe Creative Suite® 6 applications. A connected server appears on your computer as a mounted hard drive or mapped network drive. Once connected, you can access server files in several ways. You can use Windows Explorer or MAC OS Finder, as well as Open, Import, Export, Place, Check In, Save, or Save As dialog boxes in Adobe Photoshop®, Adobe Bridge, Adobe Illustrator®, Adobe InDesign®, and Adobe InCopy®.

Adobe Drive 4 includes two predefined connectors:

  • The Adobe CQ Digital Asset Management Connector enables access to Adobe AEM Digital Asset Management (AED DAM)
  • The CMIS Connector enables basic access to servers that implement the Content Management Interoperability Services (CMIS) specification.

Adobe Drive can be extended to support access to 3rd party asset management systems. Asset management vendors can provide a custom connector for Adobe Drive to enable use of assets stored in their repository. Once customized by a Digital Asset Management (DAM) vendor, Adobe Drive represents the contents of the remote DAM system as a network drive on the user's file system and enables the use of "light-up" user functions inside Creative Suite applications, such as viewing version history or adding a check-in comment when saving a file. These Creative Suite features are present only when Adobe Drive (along with a DAM vendor's custom connector) is installed on the user's machine. Check with your asset management vendor to verify availability of an Adobe Drive 4 connector for their system.

What's new in this release

This update provides key fixes, updates, and improvements, including:

  • An updated Adobe Experience Manager DAM Connector integrates with AEM 5.6 DAM, with performance improvements.
  • An updated CMIS connector integrates with Alfresco 4.2, IBM FileNet P8, and Microsoft SharePoint 2013.
  • The Drive 4 submenu is now correctly placed in the file context menu for Mac OS Finder.
  • New file status icons are shown when viewing managed assets in a platform file browser (Windows Explorer or Mac OS Finder). The new icons show the DAM status of a file that is checked out by the user, checked out by another user, or up-to-date.
  • Performance is improved when loading a number of assets in Adobe Bridge for the first time.
  • A number of fixes in AEM DAM 5.6 affect Adobe Drive functionality, including the following:
    • You can now check out assets from an AEM DAM server if they’ve been renamed and have had a version promoted [3172339]
    • You can now show the version comments after promoting a version to be the current version [3172341]
    • Versions created in the supported CS applications now show the correct creator in Adobe Bridge and in the version dialog [3172348]
    • Versions are no longer lost when moving multi-versioned files to another folder in Bridge [3172351]
    • PSD files that have had the metadata edited in Adobe Bridge or AEM DAM now correctly show the modified values [3172355]
    • Dimension metadata for AEM DAM managed assets now appears correctly in Adobe Bridge [3183270]
    • Orientation metadata is now extracted when ingesting a JPG/PSD file into AEM DAM [3351519]

Installing Adobe Drive 4.2

Adobe Drive 4.2 is used together with Creative Suite products (Photoshop, InDesign, InCopy, Illustrator, and Adobe Bridge). See Adobe Creative Suite 6 system requirements:

http://www.adobe.com/products/creativesuite/design-web-premium/tech-specs.html/

Known issues

These problems are known to occur in this release. For the latest updates on known issues, go to:
http://helpx.adobe.com/drive.html

  • For issues that occur when connecting to an AEM or CQ DAM server, see the AEM DAM Connector Tech Note
  • For issues that occur when connecting to a CMIS server, see the CMIS Connector Tech Note
  • When you connect to or disconnect from a server through the Adobe Drive Connect UI, if Adobe Bridge is open it switches to the front and back of the screen multiple times. [3177120]
  • You cannot create a Collection in Adobe Bridge from files managed by a connected server. [2937176]
  • [Windows only] If you have a file open and checked out in InDesign, and another user renames or moves that file, you get a message that the file has been deleted, and you can no longer edit that file or check it in. [2936906]
  • If you are working on a new file in InDesign while in offline mode and move it to a different managed folder, you can no longer open the file in InDesign. To open it, close InDesign and copy the file to a different location, then restart InDesign and open the file from the new location. [3133365]
  • If you open an up-to-date managed file in InDesign while online, then go into offline edit mode, you cannot save the edited file. Use Save As to save a new temporary version of your changes locally. [3133357]
  • [Mac OS only] If you try to drag-and-drop a managed file from Adobe Bridge into an InDesign or Illustrator document, you get a text frame in the open document rather than a placed file. [3150063]
