As of February 8 2011, Adobe no longer supports or provides security updates for Flash Player 9. Adobe recommends that all Flash Player users on supported systems upgrade to the most recent version. You can get the most recent version of Flash Player from the Flash Player Download Center.

If your computer does not meet the system requirements for installing the latest version of Flash Player, you can continue to use Flash Player 9. However, there are potential security risks in doing so. To install or reinstall Flash Player 9 on an older computer, see Archived Flash Player versions.

Disable auto-update notifications on older computers

Adobe recommends that you keep auto-update notifications enabled so that you receive the latest features and security updates as they are deployed. However, if your system does not support the latest version of Flash Player, you can stop receiving reminders about updates.

To disable auto-update notifications and continue to use Flash Player 9, do the following:

  1. Open the Flash Player Settings Manager in a new tab, or browser window.
  2. Select Global Notifications Settings panel from the Settings Manager menu on the left side of the window.
  3. When the Global Notifications Settings panel displays, deselect Notify Me When An Update To Adobe Flash Player Is Available.

Support policy

As a normal business process for Adobe, Adobe discontinues support for a product or technology as a result of changing market conditions and impact to customers. Adobe’s stated support policy for Adobe Flash Player is to support the current and previous major release (http://www.adobe.com/support/programs/policies/supported.html). However, Flash Player 9 was released in June 2006 and has less than 2% market share according to the December 2010 Millward Brown penetration study. After supporting Flash Player 9 for 5 years, Adobe is discontinuing support to continue to focus on advancing the web with new releases of Flash Player.
