Spot color tints

FreeHand 8 makes it easy to create a tint or lighter percentage of a spot color (usually a Pantone color). Spot colors match the color of the specific ink that will be used on a printing press to print the color from the FreeHand illustration. FreeHand includes libraries of spot and other types of colors. The most popular spot color matching system is the PANTONE Matching System. When printing separations, the tints will print on the same plate as the base spot color.

To create a tint of a spot color do the following:

1	Choose Window > Panels > Color List.
2	Select the desired Pantone color library from the Options pop-up menu.
	Or a color can be mixed in the Color Mixer added to the Color List by clicking the Add to Color List button, selecting Spot, and clicking Add. If this method is used to create the Spot color, then skip to step 4.
3	Type the number of a Pantone color or select one from the list. Click OK. The color is added to the color list and the name should be in Plain Roman type, not Italic.
4	ChooseWindow > Panel > Tints or click on the Tints tab in the Color Mixer.
5	Select the Pantone Color from the pop-up of color names or drag the color chip from the color list and drop it in the space (well) above thenumber 10. Note:The name of the color will show in area to the right of the color chip.
6	Click one of the color chips in the row of boxes below the numbers, or type a number in the custom tint box, or move the slider bar to create the desired tint.
7	Click the Add to Color List Button. The Add to Color List dialog appears.
8	PressAdd. The color is automatically added to the color list. It should read x% (Name of Spot). This is a true tint of that particular color and will print on the same plate as that color. Note: To by pass the Add to Color List dialog, press Control (Windows) or Command (Macintosh) before clicking the Add to Color List Button.
