LiveCycle Workbench ES cannot start because is "currently in use"

Adobe LiveCycle Workbench ES displays the following error message at startup:

"The LiveCycle Workbench workspace is currently in use.

You must close the other instance of Workbench to proceed."

Note: The user running the application has no rights to write to the filesystem.

Change the working directory of the application to solve the issue:

Right-click the Adobe LiveCycle Workbench ES shortcut icon.

Click Properties.

Change the "Start in:" field to a directory that you are allowed to write to (for example, My Documents).
