Screen black when playing video | Trial version | Adobe Premiere Elements 9

Issue

When you try to play a video In the trial version of Adobe Premiere Elements 9, a black screen with a watermark appears in the monitor.

Solution

Download and install an updated VideoRenderer.dll file.

Windows

  1. Close Adobe Premiere Elements 9.
  2. Download VideoRenderer.dll.
  3. Make a backup of the VideoRenderer.dll file:
    1. Create a folder named Backup. 
    2. Copy the VideoRenderer.dll file from the Adobe Premiere Elements installation folder to the new folder. If you used the default location when installing Adobe Premiere Elements, the VideoRenderer.dll file is in the Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Elements 9 folder.
  4. Copy the VideoRenderer.dll file that you downloaded into the Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Elements 9 folder. Click Yes in the dialog asking you if you want to replace the original file.

Mac OS 

  1. Close Adobe Premiere Elements 9.
  3. Double-click the zip file to open it. The VideoRenderer.framework folder is in the zip file.
  4. Make a backup of the VideoRenderer.framework folder.
    1. Create a folder named Backup. 
    2. Copy the VideoRenderer.framework folder in the Adobe Premiere Elements installation folder into this folder. If you used the default location when installing Adobe Premiere Elements, the VideoRenderer.framework folder is in the Applications\Adobe Premiere Elements 9.app\Contents\Frameworks\  folder.
  5. Replace the VideoRenderer.framework folder in the Frameworks folder with the file you downloaded in step 2: 
    1. In the Applications folder, right-click Adobe Premiere Elements.app, and select Show Package Contents. 
    2. Navigate to the Contents folder, and open the Frameworks folder.
    3. Copy the downloaded VideoRenderer.framework folder to the Frameworks folder. Replace the folder in at this location

Additional information

This playback issue most often occurs with TOD, DSLR, HDV, MOD, VOB files where a matching project preset is used.
