Message "Media Encoder update available" when exporting from Premiere Pro CS5

Issue

When you export a sequence from Adobe Premiere Pro CS5, the message "Media Encoder update is available" appears and Adobe Media Encoder fails to start. The most recent update for Adobe Media Encoder (AME) is installed.

Solution

If you installed Adobe Premiere Pro in a folder other than the default location, put a shortcut to the Adobe Media Encoder (AME) application in the Adobe Premiere Pro folder. Then, Adobe Premiere Pro can find AME and launch it.

  1. In Windows Explorer, go to the C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Media Encoder CS5\ folder.
  2. Right-click "Adobe Media Encoder" or "Adobe Media Encoder.exe", and choose "Create Shortcut". A shortcut to the AME application is placed in the same folder.
  3. Copy the shortcut to your Adobe Premiere Pro folder. For example, if you installed Adobe Premiere Pro on the E: drive, copy the shortcut that you created to E:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CS5\.
  4. Rename the shortcut from "Shortcut to Adobe Media Encoder.exe" to "Adobe Media Encoder".  If you have your operating system set to show file-name extensions, keep the .lnk  filename extension.
  5. Restart Adobe Premiere Pro.
