When you try to repair, update, or uninstall affected versions of Acrobat or Adobe Reader 8.1.x, this error message appears: "Error applying transforms. Verify that the specified transform paths are valid."
This error is due to a problem in the Windows registry that can exist if any of the following updates were made:
Run kb404307.exe on affected systems.
Note: This utility provides a solution for Acrobat and Reader 8.1.x. Acrobat and Reader 8 do not support Windows 7, so this utility does not have any effect in Windows 7. Acrobat and Reader 9.3.1 and later support Windows 7. For full support of Acrobat in a Windows 7 environment, Adobe recommends updating to Acrobat or Reader 9.3.1 or later.
The KB404307.exe utility adjusts the registration of these transforms so that the Windows Installer Service can correctly do maintenance on the affected installed Adobe products.
Acrobat and Reader 8.1.x updates register additional transforms on the system. Systems with multiple transforms and systems set to register transforms in a secure location are affected. Affected users will not be able update to the latest version or uninstall the existing version while this problem persists. This problem does not affect the correct functioning of the installed application, and no other application is affected.
