Powered by Adobe Sensei, Enhance Details allows you to achieve crisp color details in raw images.

Introduced in the February 2019 release of Lightroom Classic (version 8.2), the Enhance Details feature allows you to quickly achieve more accurate rendition of fine details in your raw images. This feature uses machine learning to improve details and reduce moiré patterns and false colors in the raw file.

You can access this feature in the Library and Develop modules by choosing Photo > Enhance Details from the menu bar or Ctrl-clicking (Mac)/right-clicking (Win) a raw image and selecting Enhance Details from the context menu. Once you apply the feature, the enhanced image is saved as a new DNG file.

You can also use Enhance Details to achieve higher resolution images and for printing purposes, particularly for large photo prints where fine details are more visible. This feature also provides improved support for editing images that are captured using Fujifilm cameras.

Minimum system requirements

Your computer must meet the following minimum technical specifications to use Enhanced Details:

Operating system

  • (Mac) macOS High Sierra (version 10.13) or later
  • (Windows) Windows 10 October 2018 Update or later

This feature is computationally intensive and performs best with a fast GPU. For more information, review the graphics processor acceleration requirement in Lightroom Classic CC system requirements.

Apply Enhance Details

  • Enhance Details can be applied only on raw image files.
  • Ensure that graphics processor acceleration is enabled in the preferences. To enable the preference, choose Lightroom Classic (Mac)/Edit (Win) > Preferences > Performance and select Use Graphics Processor.
  • Enhance Details does not work on images that have been previously enhanced.

  1. In the Library or Develop module, select a raw image that you want to enhance.

  2. Do one of the following:

    • Ctrl-click (on Mac)/right-click (on Windows) the image and select Enhance Details.
    • From the menu bar, choose Photo Enhance Details.
  3. The Enhance Details Preview dialog box provides a live preview of the effect.

You can hold down the hand cursor to view the original image and release it to preview the enhanced image. You can also hold down and move the hand cursor to preview the before and after effect on different areas of the image.

The Enhance Details Preview dialog box displays an Estimated time which is the approximate time taken to apply Enhanced Details on the selected area of the image. This is based on the computer you use.

  4. Once you are satisfied with the preview, click Enhance to apply the effect on the image. The enhanced image is then saved as a DNG file.

Lightroom Classic creates a new enhanced DNG image (with a suffix '-Enhanced' in the original filename) next to the original source file.
