Why there are often two server calls in implementing Adobe DTM?

Environment

Dynamic Tag Manager

Answer

When the Analytics Tool is first installed in DTM, there is a default image request that sends on each page. Page load rule changes this default beacon. When another event based or direct call rule is created to fire an image request, then we have two server calls firing from the same page. One can then choose to suppress the default beacon and then let their rule fire or the opposite way.

To suppress the default beacon, one can go to their DTM property and click on the Tools tab, then click the Analytics gear. When it opens, click "Customize Page Code" and then "Open Editor". In here, add the code "return false;". If the requirement is only to suppress this default beacon on certain pages, add some coding logic. Logic can be added around the 'return false;' statement to accomplish the desired behavior.
