There is a variety of reasons for why one or more visitors might not realize a trait or segment after onboarding data files:

  • Delayed file ingestion after processing
  • Invalid file name or syntax in file contents
  • Unknown user ID used for the visitor ID in the data file

 

Delayed file ingestion after processing

Data onboarding into AAM is normally available for targeting site visitors after 24-36 hours. If the data file was ingested and you have received an email about the onboarding status, but the trait or segment graph doesn't show new onboard visitors the next day, this could be due to the ingested data having missed the reporting deadline that displays the ingested data in the graph. The data may be in our system in this case, but the graph hasn't been updated due to missing the previous day's reporting processes. Also, do not interpret the "successful upload" email as a statement that the data is available. This only means that Audience Manager has picked up the file and completed the first step of processing.

 

Invalid file name or syntax in file contents

The file name dictates which data source contains the visitor IDs listed in your data files and which data source is the target for data ingestion. It also contains a timestamp which helps identify the file name as a unique file, so our system doesn't process duplicate files after one of the copies of the file has been processed. If the data source ID(s) in the file name don't match to an existing data source, the system won't know which data source to place the data or search for IDs from the data file.

 

Unknown user ID used for the visitor ID in the data file

After the file has been processed, an email of the onboarding status will be sent to registered email addresses and the Onboarding Status report will be available in the user interface the day after our system has ingested the data files. This will list the count of formatting errors from the file, as well as the count of user IDs from the file that could not be found in our system or was an invalid AAM UUID (38 digits long).
