Unable to save workspace on VMware

Note:

Virtualization is not supported, so users can experience some issues with it. This article covers a known issue identified with VMWare as of Summer 2015.

Issue

The Data Workbench Client on VMware can fail to launch or randomly crash while renaming or saving a workspace.

Solution

In order for Data Workbench client to work, OpenGL version 2.1 is required.  Since it is not installed on VMware Fusion by default, the user must install "VMware Tools” which includes newer versions of OpenGL:

  1. Power on the virtual machine and log in.
  2. Go to Virtual Machine > Install VMWare Tools.
  3. Follow the installation prompts, and restart as necessary.
