Question

In which scenarios AID is passed in Analytics image request?

Answer

AID is passed in image request based on the following scenarios:

Scenario 1
MCID service deployed with no grace period activated (Returning Visitor)
Result:  Image request contains both an 'aid' and 'mid'. This means that you see values in the visid_high & visid_low columns in data feeds.

Scenario 2
MCID service deployed with no grace period activated (New Visitor)
Result:  Image request contains a 'mid' only. This means that you do not see values in the visid_high & visid_low columns in data feeds.

Scenario 3
MCID service deployed with grace period activated (New or Returning Visitors)
Result:  Image request has a s_vi cookie and therefore an 'aid' value (including mid). This means that you see values in the visid_high & visid_low columns in data feeds.

Catch: In Scenario 3, if Tracking Server/ or Marketing Cloud Server is not correctly populated, image request shows only MCID. Therefore, their  visid_high & visid_low columns in data feeds contain zeros.
