Experience Manager provides an environment for authors to create and manage content for mobile apps. To engage customers and employees with mobile apps, enterprises can deploy Experience Manager Mobile using a variety of methods.
When you purchase a license to Adobe Experience Manager Mobile, you have access to Adobe Experience Manager Mobile On-Demand Services (AEM Mobile) and to Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) instances as defined in the license agreement.
AEM
Adobe Experience Manager provides an environment for authors to create and manage content for mobile apps, without involving IT or designers in day-to-day operations.
The license agreement for AEM specifies the number of instances that can be deployed in a production environment. You can set up and maintain Experience Manager instances specifically for use with AEM Mobile, or you can license existing Experience Manager Sites or Assets instances for use with AEM Mobile.
AEM Mobile On-Demand Services
The AEM Mobile On-Demand Services provide the following capabilities:
- Manage projects, settings, roles, users, and access.
- Create appl binaries to be deployed on individual mobile devices.
- Define content organization, visualization, and navigation views.
- Distribute content to mobile apps.
- Manage entitlement to content (subscriptions, products, restricted collections).
- Manage text notifications.
- Content and notification services are exposed through the Experience Manager Mobile
On-Demand Services API, allowing third-party systems to integrate with the Experience Manager Mobile On-Demand Services.
The Experience Manager Mobile On-Demand Services are accessible via a Web browser (https://aemmobile.adobe.com) or through the Experience Manager Mobile On-Demand Services API.

Additional Adobe products integrate well with AEM Mobile
Analytics Essentials are included with an AEM Mobile licence. In addition, the following products work well with AEM Mobile but require additional licenses:
- Adobe Target integration
- Adobe Mobile Analytics
- Mobile Marketing, including In-App Messaging, Push Notifications, and Acquisition Tracking
Adobe Target, Adobe Mobile Analytics, and In-App Messages are part of Adobe Marketing Cloud.
You can use a number of different methods to deploy AEM Mobile apps. These scenarios are not exclusive to each other and they can be used together.
Method 1 – Using Experience Manager to manage content
In this scenario, a content author uses Experience Manager to manage the content in one or more mobile apps.
Method 2 – Using InDesign, Acrobat, and other authoring tools to manage content
In this scenario, authors can create content using Adobe Creative Cloud applications such as Adobe InDesign, export it as an article file, and import the article in to the Experience Manager Mobile On-Demand Services.
In addition, Adobe Document Cloud (Adobe Acrobat) provides direct integration with the Experience Manager Mobile On-Demand Services.
Method 3 – Using a third-party system to manage content
In this scenario, the author uses a third-party system to manage content in Experience Manager Mobile app. The system provider implements the Experience Manager Mobile Mobile On-Demand Services API to bring in and update content in the Experience Manager Mobile Mobile On-Demand Services.
Method 4 – Using Experience Manager to update a PhoneGap or Cordova app
In this scenario, a user brings the source code of a PhoneGap- or Cordova-based app into an
Experience Manager author instance. The author can manage the content through Experience Manager and stage updates for approval and distribution to the mobile runtime. The content updates are distributed through a Publish instance. See Developing Mobile Apps in AEM.

You can build apps using either Adobe Experience Manager Mobile or Digital Publishing Suite (DPS). For new apps, we recommend that you use AEM Mobile.
- If you create a DPS app, you continue to use the Overlays and Folio Builder panels in InDesign (CC or CC 2014) to create folios and articles, and you use the DPS Dashboard (https://digitalpublishing.acrobat.com) to publish content and use other DPS services. The DPS workflow remains the same.
- If you create an Experience Manager Mobile app, you use the On-Demand Portal (https://aemmobile.adobe.com) to create and manage your articles and content and upload the article files exported from InDesign or from other authoring systems.
