Say hello to the new Acrobat Pro DC! I think you’ll soon see that the changes in the new version make it easier than ever to get work done.
Let’s take a look at the interface, starting with the HOME screen.
First, Acrobat presents you with some quick links to helpful resources to get you started, including an interactive tour of Acrobat and a tutorial on editing PDFs. Very helpful!
Additionally, you’ll see a list of recent files, making it very easy to continue working oncurrent projects.
Click SENT to explore and track any files you’ve sent for review.
Under STORAGE, you’ll find documents stored locally on your COMPUTER, stored in DOCUMENT CLOUD, or in your CREATIVE CLOUD files.
Under Add Account, you’ll see links to connect to services from BOX, DROPBOX, your ONEDRIVE account, or a MICROSOFT SHAREPOINT site, so you can access your files inother storage services.
By the way, you can change your interface to a stylish DARK GRAY if you wish—ChooseView > Display Theme and pick Light or Dark Gray. You just have to restart the application to make the change. I’ll leave it at the default Light Gray, but feel free to change your own setup.
At the top of the application window, there are options for opening files, for saving either locally or to Document Cloud, for printing, emailing, searching, and other common functions. By the way, when you save to Document Cloud, files are automatically virus-scanned during upload.
The new tabbed interface is an efficient way to display multiple open documents. You can also tile the documents if you wish, by choosing Window > Tile and selecting the vertical or horizontal option.
Click the light gray bar to the right of your document to view the righthand pane, containing your currently available toolsets. You can rearrange the tools by dragging. But these aren’t all the tools...
At the top of your document window, click TOOLS to display the TOOLS panel, which contains the rich set of tools and functions that are part of Acrobat Pro DC, organized by general function. Below any tool, click the pulldown and choose Learn More to view a description of the tool. Choose OPEN to open the toolset, or choose ADD to add the toolset to the righthand pane.
To remove a toolset from the righthand pane, just hover over it and click the “X”.
To further customize your environment, you can customize the QUICK TOOLS BAR, and also create and save your own toolsets, which are synchronized across your computers linked to the same Adobe ID.
When I click the COMMENT tool in the right-hand pane, I’m taken to the Commenting environment, where I can add sticky notes, drawing markups — even record an audio comment!
When I’m through commenting, to exit the Commenting tool environment, I can either click the “X” at the upper right, or choose “Return to Document” from the tool pulldown menu. The comments aren’t permanently added to the document until I save it.
To show the Navigation pane, click on the light gray vertical bar at the left of your document. This contains page thumbnails, bookmarks, and attachments, and provides easy methods for exploring a document.
Now that you’ve seen the great new streamlined interface for Acrobat Pro DC, you’re ready to start viewing and managing all of your own PDF files!
The Home view appears when you select the Home tab or don’t have a PDF file opened in Acrobat DC.
- In the left pane, you can access multiple file lists, including Recent, Scans, My Computer, and files Shared For Viewing, For Review, and For Signature.
- In the center of the user interface, you’ll see to-do cards to track pending actions for documents shared with you.
- At top right, you’ll find a search box, learn and support link, and notifications bell for file activity alerts.
The Tools center is the go-to place to use and discover tools available in Acrobat DC. When you have a PDF document open and choose a tool, tool-specific commands or a toolbar appears in the document view. If you don’t have a file open and choose a tool, you will be prompted to select a file.
The right pane provides tool shortcuts for quick access to frequently used tools. To add a shortcut, open the Tools center and click the Add button below the desired tool name.
