Error: "Acrobat 8 Professional cannot be launched" | Adobe Creative Suite 3

Issue

When you try to open Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional, it returns the error "Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional cannot be launched at this time. You must launch at least one other suite component (such as Adobe Photoshop) before launching Acrobat 8 Professional."

Solutions

Solution 1: Open another Creative Suite 3 application first

Open any other Creative Suite 3 application and follow the on-screen instructions to enter a serial number and activate your software. Then open Acrobat 8 Professional.

Solution 2: Move the Acrobat, Adobe PCD, and Adobe PDF folders (Mac OS only)

  1. Quit any Adobe applications that are open.
  2. In the Finder, navigate to /Library/Application Support/Adobe at the root level of the startup disk (not the Library folder inside a user's Home folder).
  3. Move the following folders to your Documents folder or another safe location:
  • Acrobat
  • Adobe PCD
  • Adobe PDF

Important: Do not delete these folders.

  1. Open Acrobat 8 Professional.
  2. Enter your serial number when prompted.

Solution 3: Install a patch (Mac OS only)

If you receive the error message after updating to Adobe Acrobat 8.2.4 (CS3) for Mac OS, see Acrobat 8.2.4 CS3 for Mac OS doesn't launch after applying security update (cpsid_86169). You can use the utility to patch the corrupt files in Acrobat 8.2.4 files that are causing the failure.
