Error: "Suite Color Management is not enabled" | Bridge CS3, CS4, CS5

Issue

When you choose Edit > Creative Suite Color Settings in Adobe Bridge, you receive the following error:

"Suite Color Management is not enabled. Suite Color Management requires that a qualifying product has been launched at least once to enable this feature."

Solutions

1. Ensure that Bridge is part of a Creative Suite install.

If Bridge was installed with an individual product such as Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Illustrator, then the Creative Suite Color Settings feature isn't available. You can only manage Creative Suite color settings if you have Adobe Bridge as part of a Creative Suite installation.

2. Launch a qualifying product.

If Adobe Bridge is installed as part of a Creative Suite edition, then quit Bridge. Then launch one of the Creative Suite color management-enabled products from that suite. For example, start Photoshop, Illustrator, or InDesign. Then, start Bridge and choose Edit > Creative Suite Color Settings.

3. Fix permissions on the Adobe color cache folder.

If steps 1 and 2 don't resolve the issue, ensure that you have full permissions on the Adobe color cache folder:

Mac OS

  1. Navigate to the folder /Users/[user]/Library/Caches/Adobe/Color.
  2. Select the folder and choose File > Get Info.
  3. Ensure that your account is listed in the Sharing & Permissions pane, with Read & Write privilege.
  4. Click the lock icon and authenticate.
  5. Click the Action button/pop-up (looks like a gear) and choose Apply to Enclosed Items.
  6. When prompted to confirm the change, click OK.

Windows

  1. Navigate to the folder C:\Users\[user]\AppData\Local\Adobe\Color.
  2. Select the folder, right-click it and choose Properties.
  3. Click the Security tab.
  4. Click the Advanced button.
  5. Click the Owner tab.
  6. Click Edit, select your user account, and check the option "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects." Then, click OK.
  7. If warned to close and reopen the properties before you can change permissions, click OK. Then, click OK twice to close out of the Properties dialog for the Color folder.
  8. Again, right-click the Color folder and choose Properties.
  9. Click the Security tab.
  10. Click the Advanced button.
  11. Click Edit, select your user account, and click Edit again.
  12. Check the Allow checkbox on the Permissions option for Full Control.
  13. Set the Apply To option to This Folder, Subfolders, And Files.
  14. Click OK, then repeat clicking OK until you close out of the Properties dialog for the Color folder.

4. Clear the Adobe color cache folder.

Finally, clear the color cache folder and try the Edit > Creative Suite Color Settings command again.

  1. Quit all Adobe applications.
  2. Navigate to the folder appropriate for your operating system:

    Mac OS: /Users/[user]/Library/Caches/Adobe/Color

    Windows: C:\Users\[user]\AppData\Local\Adobe\Color
  3. In that folder, delete the file that begins with ACEConfigCache*.
  4. In the same folder, delete all files that begin with ACECache*.
  5. Start one of the qualifying products in your Creative Suite edition (Photoshop, Illustrator, or InDesign), then start Adobe Bridge and choose Edit > Creative Suite Color Settings.
