Error "Update server not responding" | Adobe Creative Suite 4 Updater, AAM | Windows

Issue

When you check for updates using the Adobe Updater (CS4) or Adobe Application Manager (CS5 and CS6), you receive the following error: "Update server is not responding."

Solution

Disable the Microsoft Virtual Adapter.

There are several possible virtual adapters on Windows, depending on your version and system settings. If you do not have this adapter active on your system, this solution is not relevant. Check for other possible network adapter conflicts or other network connectivity issues.

  1. Choose Start > Control Panel > Network And Sharing Center.

  2. Click Change Adapter Settings.

  3. Right-click and disable one or more of the following adapters:

    • Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter
    • Microsoft Wi-Fi Direct Virtual Adapter
    • Microsoft Hosted Network Virtual Adapter
  4. In your Adobe product, choose Help > Check For Updates.
