Both Java and JavaScript are programming languages, however each are drastically different from one another.

Java is a programming language and computing platform that Sun Microsystems first released in 1995. Oracle currently owns it. It is the underlying technology that powers state-of-the-art programs including utilities, games, and business applications. Java runs on more than a billion devices worldwide. It requires a free application, which can be downloaded at Ad hoc analysis' stand-alone application is based on Java.

JavaScript is a scripting language that is used mainly for providing dynamic content within web browsers. All modern web browsers natively support JavaScript, which can provide levels of interactivity far beyond the capability of standard HTML pages. It does not require any additional application to run outside that of your browser. Most of Adobe Analytics' data collection methods are based on JavaScript.
