Error when exporting movie in Premiere Pro

When you export QuickTime H.264 movies on Windows, Adobe Premiere Pro hangs or returns the following error:

"Error compiling movie."

The issue only occurs on Windows systems that have 22 or more cores (real or virtual).

Solution: Reduce the number of CPU cores available to QuickTime

  1. Save and close Adobe Premiere Pro (and Adobe Media Encoder).
  2. Click the Windows Start icon.
  3. Type msconfig in the text box and press Enter.
  4. Select the Boot tab.
  5. Click Advanced Options.
  6. Select Number Of Processors.
  7. Select 21 (or fewer) from the menu.
  8. Click OK.
  9. Click OK to exit System Configuration.
  10. Click Restart.

Upon completion of system restart, launch Adobe Premiere Pro (or Adobe Media Encoder), and export the file or sequence again.
