What you learned: How to import assets from Photoshop using a few methods

Methods for importing assets from Photoshop

There are several methods you can use to import assets from Photoshop, including pasting Photoshop assets into XD, importing Photoshop (.PSD) files using the Import command, dragging them into your XD document from a folder, opening a Photoshop (.PSD) document in XD, and importing a Photoshop (.PSD) document into your existing XD document.

Importing Photoshop assets using the Import command

  • Choose File > Import (MacOS) or click the menu in the upper-left corner and choose Import (Windows). Select a Photoshop (.PSD) document and click Import.

If the imported Photoshop file has artboards, those artboards are placed in XD along with the artwork on them. If the imported Photoshop file doesn’t have artboards, the assets are placed at the center of the canvas.

Importing Photoshop assets using the Open command

  • Choose File > Open From Your Computer (MacOS) or click the menu in the upper-left corner and choose Open From Your Computer (Windows). Select a Photoshop (.PSD) document and click Open.

The Photoshop document is opened in XD and converted to an XD document. After you open your files, you can edit them in XD, copy content and artboards between XD documents, wire interactions, and share them as prototypes or design specs.
