Notification to close background processes during installation

Continue app updates and installations by addressing errors caused by background apps or processes.

Background apps or processes can cause installation errors

Some apps or processes run in the background, even when no files or apps are visible. These may interfere with the installation, causing it to pause or stop temporarily.

In these cases, you might see one of the following error messages:

  • Please close the following application/process to continue: - LogTransport2
  • Please save your work and close the following programs, then click Continue
  • "Close any conflicting apps or processes to proceed with the installation or update."

To resolve this error, follow the steps for your operating system.

Windows

Background app is causing installation errors

A conflicting app on your Windows device may cause compatibility issues during installation. To resolve, close any open programs that might be interfering, then try running the program again.

Background process is causing installation errors

To resolve installation errors caused by background processes, follow these steps:

  1. Right-click the taskbar and select Task Manager.

  2. If the Task Manager isn't fully expanded, select More details.

  3. Select the Details tab.

  4. Right-click the process mentioned in your error message, and then select End task.

    You can terminate the process to resolve the error.

macOS

A conflicting app on your macOS may be causing compatibility issues. To resolve, close any open programs that might be interfering, then try running the program again.

Background process is causing installation errors

To resolve installation errors caused by background processes, follow these steps:

  1. In the Finder, select Go > Utilities.

  2. Double-click Activity Monitor.

  3. Select View All Processes to see information about backend processes, including memory and CPU usage.

    Select all processes to view all processes running on your machine.

  4. In the search box, type the name of the process you want to close.

  5. Double-click the conflicting process from the list and select Quit.

  6. If prompted, select Force Quit to end the selected background process.

    Select the app to close and choose Force Quit.

  7. Repeat steps 4 to 6 for any additional conflicting processes.
