Resolve the missing or unclickable Accept button in EULA

When you install Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader, you can't click Accept or Deny in the Software License Agreement dialog box. (The dialog box is sometimes called the End-User License Agreement or EULA.)

The following symptoms can occur:

  • Acrobat displays an error - Could not accept the Terms of Use. Please try to login later.
  • The Accept or Decline buttons are not visible.
  • If you move the cursor over the Accept or Decline button, it changes from an arrow to an I-beam, as if you are editing text.
  • If you click anywhere else in the Software License Agreement dialog box, the Accept and Decline options disappear.
  • Nothing happens when you click Accept.
  • The Software License Agreement is distorted. See Additional information.

Solutions

Try one or more of the following solutions:

Solution 1: Press Tab + Enter.

Press Tab and then press the Enter key to move the focus to the Accept button. (By default, just pressing the Enter key clicks the Decline button.)  

Solution 2: Change the screen resolution to 1024 x 768.

  1. Right-click the desktop and choose Display Settings.

  2. In the left pane, choose Display, and then check the Resolution in the Scale and Layout section.

  3. If the screen resolution is less than 1024 x 768, click the Resolution drop-down list, and choose the 1024 x 768 resolution.

  4. Click Apply, and then click Keep Changes.

  1. Right-click the desktop and choose Screen resolution.

  2. If the screen resolution is less than 1024 x 768, then drag the Screen Resolution slider to the right until the resolution is 1024 x 768.

  3. Click OK, and then click Yes.

Solution 3: Set video driver display DPI and Font Size to Normal/Default.

Set the DPI and Font Size settings in the Display Properties dialog box to Normal/Default before you install the Adobe application.

  1. Right-click the desktop and choose Display Settings.

  2. In the left pane, choose Display. Click the Change the size of text, apps, and other items drop-down list, and choose the desired scaling %.

  1. Right-click the desktop and choose Personalize.
  2. Open the DPI Scaling Control Panel by choosing Adjust font size (DPI).
  3. Select Default Scale (96 DPI).
  4. Click Apply, and then click OK.

Advanced solutions

Do one or more of the following solutions:

Hoiatus.

Solutions 2 and 3 involve modifying the Windows registry. Adobe doesn't provide support for problems caused by improperly modifying the registry, which contains critical information about your system's hardware and software. Before modifying the registry, create a backup of the registry. For more information about the registry, see the documentation in Windows or contact Microsoft.

Solution 1: Run Acrobat as an administrator. < >

Right-click Acrobat and choose Run As Administrator. Enter your system's username and password if prompted.

Solution 2: Manually register the jscript.dll file.

Applicable to Windows 10, Windows 7, and Windows Vista only

Begin by determining whether your Windows system is 32-bit or 64-bit:

  1. Click Start.

  2. Do one of the following based on the operating system you are using:

    • Windows 10 - Click the Settings () icon, and then click About in the left-pane.
    • Windows 8/7 - Right-click Computer and choose Properties.

  3. In the System Type, look for 32-bit or 64-bit information.

Then follow the instructions in the section below for your system type.

On 32-bit Windows

  1. Do the following based on the operating system you are using:

    • Windows 10 - Click Start and then type cmd.
    • Windows 8/7 - Choose Start > All Programs > Accessories.
  2. Right-click Command Prompt, choose Run As Administrator, and authenticate.

  3. If the prompt reads C:\Windows\System32>, then proceed to step 4. Otherwise, type the following command exactly as it appears below, including the quotation marks, and then press Enter:
    cd "%systemroot%\System32"

  4. At the prompt, type regsvr32 /u jscript.dll and press Enter.

  5. At the prompt, type regsvr32 jscript.dll and press Enter.

  6. When a dialog box with the message "DllRegisterServer in jscript.dll succeeded" appears, click OK.

On 64-bit Windows

  1. Do the following based on the operating system you are using:

    • Windows 10 - Click Start and then type cmd.
    • Windows 8/7 - Choose Start > All Programs > Accessories.
  2. Right-click Command Prompt, choose Run As Administrator, and authenticate.

  3. If the prompt reads C:\Windows\SysWow64>, then proceed to Step 4. Otherwise, type the following command exactly as it appears below, including the quotation marks, and then press Enter:
    cd "%systemroot%\SysWow64"

  4. At the prompt, type regsvr32 /u jscript.dll and press Enter.

  5. At the prompt, type regsvr32 jscript.dll and press Enter. 

  6. When a dialog box with the message "DllRegisterServer in jscript.dll succeeded" appears, click OK.

Solution 3: Accept the license agreement by editing the Windows registry 

  1. Close Acrobat.

  2. To open the Registry Editor, click Start. Type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press Enter.

  3. In the left pane of the Registry Editor, navigate to the appropriate folder:
    • Windows 10/8/7 (32 bit) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\product_version\AdobeViewer
    • Windows 10/8/7 (64 bit) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\<version>\AdobeViewer      

  4. In the left pane of the Registry Editor, open the <current version> folder. Then do one of the following:

    • If the AdobeViewer key exists, select AdobeViewer.
    • If the AdobeViewer key does not exist, right-click on <current version>, choose New > Key, name the new key AdobeViewer, and select AdobeViewer.
  5. In the right pane of the Registry Editor, do one of the following:
    • If the EULA entry exists, then right-click on EULA and choose Modify. Change the value data to 1. Leave the base as Hexadecimal. Click OK.
    • If the EULA entry does not exist, then right-click on AdobeViewer and choose New > DWORD Value. Name the new item as EULA. Right-click on EULA and choose Modify. Change the value data to 1. Leave the base as Hexadecimal. Click OK.
  6. Close the Registry Editor.   

Additional information

The minimum screen resolution requirement for Acrobat products is 1024 by 768. For additional system requirements, see System requirements | Acrobat family of products.

The Software License Agreement dialog box can be distorted if any of the follow conditions exist:

  • The screen resolution is set to less than 1024 x 768.
  • Large Fonts or Extra Large Fonts are selected in the Display Properties dialog box.
  • The video driver display DPI is set to a size other than the default 96 DPI.
