For some Firefox browser users, Adobe Flash video content (such as from begins, but stops playing aftera few seconds.

This is a known issue with Flash Player 9. It can be caused by a number of factors:

  • Having more than 15 instances of Adobe Flash Player running in Firefox. With multiple tabs and many sites featuring ads delivered as Flash content, it is fairly easy to have more than 15 instances in memory.
  • Having certain hardware drivers that may be corrupt. For example, some users have reported this issue when they had older PCI cards installed, but removing those particular cards resolved the issue.
  • Disconnecting USB speakers/headphones.
  • Not having an audio output device configured.

This issue is resolved in Flash Player 10. To work around the issue update to Flash Player 10.

If updating to Flash Player 10 is not an option, try the following:

  1. Ensure that your audio drivers are up to date.
  2. Avoid frequent removal of USB audio hardware.
  3. Avoid running many Firefox tabs (to reduce the possibility of having more than 15 instances of Flash Player in memory).
