In some instances, when you launch After Effects or Premiere Pro, the application crashes.

Issue

Application crashes on launch with the error "The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000005)."

Description

In some instances, when you launch After Effects 15.1 and Premiere Pro 12.1, the application is unable to start correctly.

The error displays on Windows machine if you have installed Intel Graphics and NVIDIA GPU cards on your machine.

Workaround

To resolve this issue, use any of the following options:

Option 1:

  • In your machine, select Device Manager > Display Adapters and disable the NVIDIA Graphics card.
    OR
  • Go to NVIDIA control panel and modify the settings under 3D programs. Select Integrated Graphics in Preferred Graphic Processor, not NVIDIA.
  • Update the drivers of Intel GPU through Windows Updates or from the system manufacturer drivers download website.

Option 2

  1. Uninstall Adobe After Effects 15.1 or Adobe Premiere 12.1.
  2. Restart the machine and reinstall Adobe After Effects 15.1 or Adobe Premiere Pro 12.1.
