Personalize your favorite vintage by designing a custom label in Adobe Illustrator. Add a colorful backdrop, layer some text and design elements, and then pull it all together with a unique color palette.
What you'll need
Place any vector drawing or photo as a background, or use our sample file. Ruler guides can help add structure to your layout. Click Show Rulers in the Properties panel and drag guides from the top and left rulers onto the artboard. To view the guides we created, click Show Guides.
Create a unique design using simple shapes. Apply simple transformations like scaling and rotating, and use Smart Guides (magenta guides) to help you position the elements.
Where two shapes overlap, you can convert the intersection into a distinct shape. Select the overlapping shapes and click the intersecting space with the Shape Builder tool. Now you can give the new shape a different color or even fill with None to show the background through it.
Personalize the text and change the font, size, color, and other attributes. Activate all the fonts you need. We added a few Bauhaus fonts from the Adobe Hidden Treasures collection, and then filtered by selecting Recently Added to narrow our choices.

Finally, unify all the elements in your custom-made label with a harmonious color palette. Choose Window > Color Guide and pick a color palette like Celebration or Pop Art. Then apply these colors to objects in your design.
