Reasons to take photos in Adobe DNG format
Often, our pictures don’t match what we actually saw when we were taking them. Editing is another chance to achieve that vision. A common format for taking pictures is JPEG, which is a compressed format that has limited editing options.
Adobe DNG is a raw file format that is uncompressed. So right away, you have a higher quality image than a JPEG, while also having greater editing capabilities to get the look you want.
Take a raw photo in Lightroom on your phone
Capture a picture in Adobe DNG format in Lightroom on your mobile device, and edit your photos anywhere.
Open the Lightroom for mobile app and tap the camera icon in the lower right. If your device supports DNG file capture, make sure File Format is set to DNG. Tap the Capture button to take the picture.
Edit your photos in Lightroom on your phone
Tap a photo thumbnail to open it for editing, and make sure the menu in the upper left is set to Edit. Swipe the bar below the image until you see the adjustment you want to make. Then tap that adjustment icon.
For example, in the Light controls, use the Shadows slider to bring out details in underexposed areas of the photo. In the Color controls, you can adjust the white balance to change the temperature so the lighting more closely matches the indoor or outdoor lighting of the scene. Under Effects, you can add texture, remove haze, increase clarity, add a vignette, or apply split-toning. You can also use the Selective tools, which allow you to modify specific areas of the photo. For example, you can apply a selective linear gradient to brighten a dark foreground in a landscape photo.
