Convert PDFs to other file formats | New experience

The new Acrobat experience makes it simpler to convert your PDFs using the Convert tool from the mega verb bar at the top. To convert PDFs to Word, RTF, spreadsheets, PowerPoint, or other formats, do the following:

Currently, the new experience is being rolled out as an experiment to select users and is available for Acrobat (64-bit) English locale only with no third-party plug-ins installed.

  1. Open the PDF in Acrobat, and then click Convert in the mega verb bar at the top. The various formats to which you can export the PDF file are displayed on the left pane.

    Choose the format to which you want to export your PDF.

  2. Select the file format to which you want to export the PDF file and a version (or format), if available. For example, if you choose to export the PDF file to Word format, you will get an option to export the PDF into Word Document (.docx) or Word 97-2003 Document (.doc) version.  

    Note:

    You can choose the Document language, and configure the conversion settings by clicking the gear icon .

  3. Click Convert to <selected doc format>.

  4. In the Save as dialog box, select a location where you want to save the file, and then click Save.

    Export your PDF document to a local folder or Adobe cloud storage.

    Note:

    By default, the source filename is used with the new extension, and the exported file is saved in the same folder as the source file.

Access other tools from the Convert tool

In addition to the Export PDF To workflow, the new experience provides access to the following tools:

  • Convert to PDF

    Select the Convert to PDF tool, choose a file you want to convert to PDF in the file explorer window, and then click Open. The selected file is converted to PDF and opens in Acrobat.

    Select the Scan & OCR tool to turn scanned documents or images into searchable, editable PDFS.

    Select the Compress a PDF tool to reduce the size of one or more PDFs, and control image and font settings.
