To import an event video, click Video > Insert Video.

Import an event video

In the Insert Video dialog, choose Event Video, and specify the location of the file. Click OK to import the video to your Captivate project.

Note:FLV files during import do not require any kind of encoding.
Encoding generally happens when previewing or publishing and that too for HTML5 preview/publish. A SWF preview/publish does not require encoding.
Modify event video properties
You can change the properties of an event video using the Property Inspector.
Video object
- Name: Enter a unique name for the object. You can use this name when defining the visibility conditions for the object.
- Visible: Disable this option if you want the object to be invisible on the slide. The object can be made visible using the Show option. For more information, see Controlling the visibility of objects.
- Accessibility: Click to add accessible text to the object. For details, see Customize accessibility text for objects.
- Object State: Add states to your video object and make it more interactive. For more information, see Working with multi-state objects.
Style
Video Type: The type of video that you want to insert:
- Progressive Download Video: Choose this option if the video is hosted on any internal server, web server, or Adobe Media Server (AMS).
- Streaming Video: Choose this option if you want to use RTMP streaming. The video must be hosted on AMS.
- Adobe Media Streaming Service: Choose this option if the video is hosted on AMS or any other web server and the service provider is one of the Adobe partners. With this option, you can use either RTMP or HTTP streaming.
If you want to embed an HTML5 video hosted on YouTube or Vimeo in a slide, choose Objects > Web, and use the web address of the video to insert the video into the slide.

- File Link: This option appears only when the selected video type is Progressive Download Video. The option represents t the absolute or relative path to the video file. Choose the video file from the library or browse to a location on the computer.
- Server URI (appears only when the selected video type is Streaming Video): This option represents the server name, application name, and instance name.
- Stream Name (appears only when the selected video type is Streaming Video): Represents the name of the video stream.
- File Link (appears only when the selected video type is Adobe Media Streaming Service): The direct file link provided by the Adobe Media Streaming Service.
- Detect Size: Displays the existing size of the inserted video.
Autoplay video
Enable or disable the following options:
- Auto Play: The video begins playing automatically when it appears on the slide.
- Auto Rewind: The video automatically rewinds to the start position after it completes playing.
- Buffer Time (appears only when the selected video type is Streaming Video or Adobe Media Streaming Service): Enter the amount (time) of video that must be loaded before the video plays in the Adobe Captivate project. (The length of actual time it takes to stream video varies depending on the user’s bandwidth)
Note:
You can use JavaScript to pause or play an event video. Insert a smart shape as a button, and assign a JavaScript event to it. Use the following code to pause the video:
document.getElementsByTagName("video")[0].pause();
To play the video, use the following code:
document.getElementsByTagName("video")[0].play();

Change video skin
The skin ( playbar ) for the inserted video. A preview of the skin you select appears directly below the Skin menu.
Choose the type of the skin for your video from the Skin drop-down list. If you do not want the playbar to appear in the video, choose None.
Change the skin to some other option.
Change shadow and reflection
- Shadow: Choose the appropriate option to apply shadow to the video. Choose one of the presets.
- Direction: Choose the direction - inner or outer. The preview of the selected direction is displayed on stage.
- Color: Choose to select a color for the shadow. Specify the alpha for the color, in percentage, in the adjacent field.
- Blur: Specify a value, in pixels, for the blur of the shadow.
- Angle: Specify the angle for the shadow.
- Distance: Specify the distance, in pixels, at which the shadow must be displayed.
- Reflection: Select the check box to add reflection to the video. Choose one of the presets.
Change video timing
Modify the following video timing properties:
Display For: Specifies the time for which the video file is displayed on the slide.
- Specific Time: Play the video file for a specified time interval.
- Rest Of Slide: Play the video file for the duration of the slide.
- Rest Of Project: Play the video file for the duration of the project.
- Duration Of Video: Play the video file until its completion.
Appear After: The time after which the video file appears on the slide after it starts playing.
Loop (option disabled if you selected Rest Of Slide or Duration Of Video from the Display For menu): Select this option if you want the video to play continuously.
Pause Slide Till End Of Video (option enabled only if you selected Rest Of Slide from the Display For menu): Select this option to pause the slide that contains the video until the video has finished playing. This option is enabled only when you select Rest Of Slide in the Display For menu.
