Web-based email clients encode dollar signs in URLs | Scene7

Issue

Web-based email clients encode dollar signs.

Solution

General

Some web-based email clients (Hotmail, Gmail, for example) have trouble with URLs that include HTML encoding, like when using nested requests in templates. In these cases, try adding a second layer of encoding by converting the "%" characters to "%25."

Hotmail encodes dollar signs ($). This issue causes template and image preset syntax to break. You can work around this issue by uploading a ruleset file to the company in Scene7 Publishing System (SPS). Then, you can replace all instances of "$" in the URL string to include the replacement text (such as, "dollarsign").

Dollar sign

Hotmail encodes dollar signs ($). This encoding causes template and image preset syntax to break. You can work around this issue by using a ruleset to preprocess the image URLs. Use the ruleset to replace all instances of "$" in the URL string with another string (such as, "dollarsign").

For example, this URL: http://scene7.com/is/image/company/picture?$preset$ is converted to the following: http://scene7.com/is/image/company/picture?_dollarsign_preset_dollarsign_.
