How to enable checkmark for comments?

In December 2018 release of Acrobat/Acrobat Reader, a new preference is added to make checkbox visible for comments. Update your Acrobat/Reader to the latest version by going to Help Check for Updates.

Problem: No option to flag a comment with a checkmark

In Acrobat/Acrobat Reader, you no longer see the option to flag a comment with a checkmark in the comment note.

Solution 1: Enable the 'Show checkbox' preference

By default, the checkbox is hidden. You have to enable the checkbox in preferences so that it is visible consistently for all comments. To enable the preference, do the following:

  1. Go to Edit > Preferences (in Windows), or Acrobat > Preferences (in macOS). The preferences dialog box is displayed.

  2. In the Commenting category, select Show Checkbox under Making Comments.

    Show checkbox

  3. Click OK.

The checkbox is now available for all comments. To add a checkmark, select the checkbox next to the comment.

Solution 2: Show checkmark for comments in the current document

Do one of the following:

  • To add or remove checkmark, select the comment, and press Shift + K.

  • Do the following:

    1. Select a comment in the Comments list.
    2. From the options menu , select Add Checkmark. You can also right-click the comment and select Add Checkmark. A check mark icon  appears on the comment.
    Add checkmark
