Illustrator CC or InDesign CC products crashes on startup.

Solutions

This article refers to an issue that conditions that prevent applications from creating a file required for the Sync Settings feature. To verify if this error is what's causing your product to crash, launch the application after disabling your Internet connectivity.

Proceed with this article only if disabling Internet connectivity results in Illustrator CC or InDesign CC launching and functioning as expected.

Illustrator CC

The solution requires placing a system file at a location where Illustrator CC is unable to create a specific file.

  1. Download the file available in this step, and extract it to a folder on your computer.

  2. Depending on your operating system, browse to the appropriate location:

    Mac OS

    • ~/Library/Preferences/Adobe Illustrator 17 Settings/en_US

    Windows (32-bit)

    • \Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator 17 Settings\en_US\x86

    Windows (64-bit)

    • \Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator 17 Settings\en_US\x64
  3. Copy the file that was extracted in Step 1 into the folder identified in Step 2.

  4. Start Illustrator CC.

InDesign CC

The solution requires placing a system file at a location where InDesign CC is unable to create a specific file.

  1. Download the file available in this step, and extract it to a folder on your computer.

  2. Depending on your operating system, browse to the appropriate location:

    Mac OS

    • ~/Library/Preferences/Adobe InDesign/Version 9.0/en_US

    Windows

    • \Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\InDesign\Version 9.0\en_US
  3. Copy the file that was extracted in Step 1 into the folder identified in Step 2.

  4. Start InDesign CC.
