Match the field input to your document’s font size and style for a seamless, professional look.
Font size and style are controlled at the field level and can be customized in the individual field properties. This allows you to adjust text formatting to match the document's content for a consistent appearance. Text formatting is available for fields that support text display using one of the supported font families.
Fields that do not support text formatting:
- E-signature
- Initials
- Checkbox
- Radio Button
- Participation stamp
- Transaction number
- Image
- Stamp
The Text Format section in the field customization menu lets authors control how recipient input appears in the final document.
For consistency, the input font should ideally match the document's font. The text formatting options include:
- Font family – Choose from several commonly used business fonts.
- Font size – Select a specific size or set it to Auto, which adjusts dynamically to fit the field.
- Font color – Pick a font color from a palette of available options.
- Font justification – Align text to the left, right, or center within the field.
These settings ensure that recipient input appears clearly and aligns with the document's design.
Selecting from three font families in four styles.
Acrobat Sign offers three distinct font families, each available in four styles, to suit different document needs:
Times Roman (Serif – Formal and Readable)
Times Roman is a classic serif font known for its readability, formal appearance, and space efficiency. It's ideal for professional and academic documents with a traditional look.

- Times Bold-Italic
Helvetica (Sans-serif – Modern and Versatile)
Helvetica is a clean and highly legible sans-serif font widely used in business, branding, and user interfaces. Its neutral and professional design complements various document styles.

- Helvetica Oblique
- Helvetica Bold-Oblique
Courier (Monospaced – Precise and Structured)
Courier is a monospaced font, meaning all characters are the same width. It's ideal for structured content, such as coding, legal documents, and forms that require precise alignment.

- Courier
- Courier Bold
- Courier Oblique
- Courier Bold-Oblique
These font families provide flexibility in document formatting, allowing users to choose the best style for readability, professionalism, and design consistency.
Adjusting the font size for a field.
The drop-down menu below the font family selection lets you adjust the font size for the field.
- Auto is the default value and allows the font size to adjust dynamically based on the amount of content typed into the field.
- When set to Auto, the font initially fills the field using the largest possible size that fits within the field boundaries.
- If the entered content exceeds the field's width, the font automatically scales down to fit all input within the available space. Auto-scaling the font attempts to ensure readability while maintaining a clean layout.
- It's possible that the font can be reduced to 2pt if the number of characters allowed in the field is too high and the field width is too small.
- Note that if all fields are set to an Auto font size, the resulting document may have highly variable font sizes in the input fields.
- Selecting a static font size enforces the chosen size, regardless of the amount of content entered. This can result in the field content scrolling out of the field view to the right.
- Static font sizes benefit from ensuring that all input is consistent in font size (provided all fields have the same font size configured).
- If you require a static font size, consider limiting the number of characters that can be entered into the field to prevent overflow to the right of the field.
Note:
Fields on forms have a finite footprint to display the input values. Where the field size may allow the field content to overflow outside the viewable field boundaries, the field content is captured and can be retrieved in its complete form through data exports.
Select a font color.
The font color picker provides a comprehensive palette for selecting and customizing colors for the font. It allows users to choose colors using two selection methods:
- Visual Color Spectrum – Select a color by clicking within the gradient color field and adjusting the hue slider.
- Hex Code Input – Enter exact color values using a hex color code.
Justify the field content correctly.
Text justification defines how text is aligned within the field relative to the boundaries of the field.
- Left-aligned – Text is aligned to the left margin, with a ragged right edge (the default for most documents). This is typically used for text in left-to-right printed language.
- Centered – Text is evenly spaced between both margins, creating a balanced look. Commonly used for table entries or isolated text (e.g., Titles and headings)
- Right-aligned – Text is aligned to the right margin, with a ragged left edge (often used for numbers or design elements). It's most commonly used for columns of numbers that should align to the right.
