Using Adobe LeanPrint

 Adobe no longer makes updates to the Adobe LeanPrint product. For more details, see the Support Options page for discontinued products. 


  1. Open the web page in a supported browser.

  2. Choose File > Print (or press Ctrl+P).

    Note:

    Select File > Conventional Print (or press Ctrl+Alt+U) if you want to print using the application’s default print dialog box. If this option is not available, contact your IT administrator.

    Note:

    The File > Print option is not supported in Google Chrome. However, the Ctrl+P option is available.

    ALTERNATIVELY

    Click Adobe LeanPrint.

  3. The print optimized preview is displayed within the browser window.

  4. If multiple articles are detected:

    • To exclude an article, move the pointer over the article. A highlight appears over that article, click Exclude.

    • Click to undo icon re-include the previously excluded articles.

  5. To change the mode click Text and Images or Text only.

    Note:

    If the article does not contain any images, this option is disabled.

  6. Do one of the following to print the optimized web page:

    • Click Print. The Print dialog box displays. Click OK.

    • Click Quick Print to print with default settings. To access the Quick Print option click the up arrow button next to Print.

      note: The Quick Print option is not available in Google Chrome.

To print a document using LeanPrint, open the Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, or Adobe PDF document.

  1. Choose File > Print (or press Ctrl+P).

    Note:

    Select File > Conventional Print (or press Ctrl+Alt+U) if you want to print using the application’s default print dialog box. If this option is not available, contact your IT administrator.

  2. In the LeanPrint dialog, choose the required print options.

    For description of each of the options in the dialog, see A.dobe LeanPrint Dialog.

  3. You can choose to view a Preview of the document or you can print the document for the current selected Saver option.

    1. Click Preview. The Preview window displays the LeanPrint output. For information on working with the Preview window, see Working with Preview.

      Tip: You can use the shortcut Ctrl+P (or Ctrl+Alt+P) to start LeanPrint. See Settings to enable this shortcut.

      When you click Preview, an X appears to the right of the currently selected Saver option (Super Saver or Toner Saver). Click this button to cancel this operation.

    2. In the Preview window, click Print.

      ALTERNATIVELY

      To print the document without first viewing the preview, click Print.

Adobe LeanPrint Dialog

The LeanPrint dialog displays when you choose to print a document. In the print dialog, you choose the required print options and then print the document . Alternatively, you can choose the print options and then view the preview of the document.

Note:

The print options in the print dialog are application-dependent. For example, LeanPrint for PowerPoint provides support for toner intensity. The Support note specified in the following sections defines the supported LeanPrint applications for a particular feature.

Printer

Choose the printer from the list of printers installed on your computer.

Copies

Specify the number of copies of the document to print.

Collated

Choose this option if you want your print job to be kept in the order that you created in your document when printed. This check box is available if you are printing multiple copies.

You can choose to print a specific section or the entire document.

Note:

This option is application-dependent.

Page Range (for Microsoft Word and Adobe PDF) / Custom Range (for Microsoft PowerPoint)

Choose to print all pages of the document or a specified range of pages.

Support: Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Adobe PDF.

Active Sheets / Workbook / Selection

Choose to print the current active sheet, the entire workbook or the selected range on cells.

Support: Microsoft Excel.

Black and White / Color

Choose to print the document in black and white or in color.

Slides

Choose the number of slides per page to print.

Support: Microsoft PowerPoint.

You can choose to print with the specific saver mode. For example, using toner saver will print the document with the original layout while saving toner ink.

Note:

This option is application-dependent.

Toner Saver / Super Saver

 

Choose Super Saver to allow LeanPrint to optimize the document to save both paper and toner.

Choose Tone Saver to allow LeanPrint to optimize the document to save toner while still retaining the original document layout.

Support: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Adobe PDF.

Light Toner Intensity / Dark Toner Intensity

 

Choose to print with in Toner Saver mode with light or dark toner intensity. Lower toner intensity leads to higher savings.

Support: Microsoft PowerPoint.

Check this option to print the comments along with the rest of the document contents.

Also, LeanPrint for Adobe PDF appends a summary of all comments to the output of the document along with the annotations and drawing markups.

Support: Microsoft Word and Adobe PDF.

Preview

Click to preview the document with the selected Saver (Super Saver or Toner Saver) option. For details see Preview.

When you click Preview, the progress of the optimization process displays in the selected Saver (Super Saver or Toner Saver) box. To cancel the optimization process, click the X to the right of the progess bar.

Support: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Adobe PDF.

Print

Click to print with the specified print options.

Quick Print documents

Note:

This feature is not available in Adobe Reader and Acrobat.

After you've used LeanPrint for a while, you'll find that using the Preview is not necessary, and you have a fair idea what the printed output will look like. In such cases you can use Quick Print to skip the preview. Quick Print uses Toner Saver mode with the gray scale option for maximum savings.

  • Click File > Print > Quick Print.

Adobe LeanPrint sends the document directly to the default printer in the Super Saver mode. You can configure Adobe LeanPrint display a preview of the document:

  1. In the Preview window, click Settings .

  2. In the Enable Preview for QuickPrint group, choose the Microsoft Application(s) for which you want to enable this option.

  3. Click OK.

Preview

The Preview window shows your document as it will print. The initial preview is generated using the default settings. You can also modify the settings, and regenerate the preview, and once you're satisfied, click Print.

Views

Click Super Saver, Toner Saver, or My Savings.

Printers

Choose a printer from the list of available printers, or to open the Printer Properties dialog box.

You can also click the Printer icon to open the Printer Properties dialog box.

Copies

Enter the number of copies to print.

Collated

Enable to collate the copies at the printer.

Color

Click to change the color option: Color or Grayscale.

Color intensity

Move the slider to adjust the color intensity. Lower color intensity leads to higher savings.

Three levels of color intensity (light, medium, and dark) are available in the Super Saver mode, while two levels (light and medium) are available in the Toner Saver mode.

Light

Lightens the color intensity, leading to toner savings. For supported document types, colored fills in charts are replaced with patterns, while all other colored fills are removed.

Medium

Lightens the color/toner intensity. However, chart fills and other fills are not removed or replaced.

Dark

Does not lighten the color intensity

Page orientation

Select either Portrait or Landscape page orientation. LeanPrint lets you switch page orientation if the document does not contain tables, hand-created tables (pseudo-tables created using the Tab key), or forms.

By default, LeanPrint chooses the orientation that best suits the document.

Font size

Select a Font size to be used when generating the preview. This option is only available for Super Saver mode, and is not available in Microsoft Excel.

Zoom

Select a zoom level at which to show the preview.

Note:

When you change settings such as the Printer, Color, or Font Size, the Print and Conventional Print buttons get disabled. Click Apply to commit any changes and regenerate the preview.

The status bar at the bottom of the Preview window shows you the savings for printing one copy of the current document.

At a glance you can see the pages, toner, and money you'll save. The My Savings tab shows you your aggregate savings. See My Savings.

My Savings

My Savings is a dashboard to all your savings, and displays the savings in an easy-to-understand, graphical manner. My Savings displays your printing trends, and shows you how much printing you've done using LeanPrint. At a glance you can also see how much paper, toner, and money you've saved, ever since you started using LeanPrint.

To view My Savings, do one of the following:

  • Click My Savings in the Preview window.

  • In Windows, click Start > All Programs > LeanPrint > My Savings.

Settings

Settings Dialog

Click Settings icon to specify common settings for running LeanPrint.

Note:

The options displayed depend on the LeanPrint deployment mode and license. You might not see all the options listed below.

Specify the following:

Enable Ctrl+Alt+P to launch LeanPrint (Microsoft Office documents only)

When enabled, this setting activates the Ctrl+Alt+P shortcut to give you an alternate way of printing, in addition to the normal Ctrl+P shortcut.

Enable preview for Quick LeanPrint

If you select this setting, Quick LeanPrint skips preview and sends the document directly to the default printer.

You can enable this option for Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, or both.

Automatically download updates and prompt for installation

Allow Adobe LeanPrint to regularly check for updates. When an new update is found, you will be prompted to download and then install the update.

Paper cost

Enter the approximate cost of paper. Divide the cost of ream of paper with the number of sheets. For example: if a ream of 500 sheets cost $4, enter 0.8 cents.

Black toner cost

Enter the approximate cost of toner per sheet. Divide the cost of the toner cartridge with the number of pages it normaly prints.

Color toner cost

Enter the approximate cost of toner per sheet. Divide the cost of the toner cartridge with the number of pages it normally prints.

Send anonymous usage data

When enabled, LeanPrint collects and periodically sends usage data to Adobe. This information is used by Adobe to understand how the product is used, and to improve the product. No personal or identifiable information is transmitted.

Note:

Click Restore Defaults to revert to the default settings.

Enter Serial Number

Enter the Adobe LeanPrint product serial number that you received on purchasing the licensed version of the product. Alternatively, if the trial period of Adobe LeanPrint has expired on your computer, enter the product serial number to continue using the product.

LeanPrint Discontinued

Adobe no longer provides updates to the LeanPrint application. If you would like to know more, please see the Support Options page for discontinued apps and services.
