What you learned

Create masks for the subject, background, and sky

The masking tools in Lightroom let you apply edits to specific areas in a photo. In addition to AI-powered tools that automatically create masks for the subject, background, and sky, there are also manual tools such as the brush, linear and radial gradients, and a tool to select objects. You can add to or subtract from a mask to refine it using any of the masking tools.
