Edit photos in Lightroom on a mobile device

Crop, apply presets, and enhance your photos with Lightroom on your mobile device anywhere you happen to be.

Open the Edit view

The Edit mode in Lightroom on mobile provides a comprehensive set of tools for you to enhance your photos. Tap on a photo thumbnail to open it into the Edit view.

Note: The screenshots in this tutorial show Lightroom on mobile on an iPhone. The user interface may vary between iPhone, iPad, and Android devices

Crop, rotate, or straighten photos

Crop and straighten photos to improve their composition. Tap Crop, then choose a fixed aspect ratio from the menu, or drag the crop box handles to use a custom ratio. You can also use the rotate dial to straighten your image. Tap the check mark to accept the changes.

Edit a photo using presets

Use presets to apply a unique look or filter effect to your photos. Select Presets from the adjustment menu and choose one of the Preset groups. Recommended will analyze your photo and provide a range of preset suggestions covering a variety of creative categories. Premium presets are customized for specific types of images and include Adaptive Presets, which use the power of AI to apply local adjustments to defined areas of the scene, including Portrait, Subject, Sky, and Blur Background. Choose an Adaptive category and tap the different presets to see how they affect the image. Tap the check mark to apply the preset.

Adjust Light

It’s common to start with adjusting the light in a photo. Tap the Edit icon (three sliders) and then choose Light. Adjust the Exposure slider to affect the overall brightness of the scene and increase the Contrast slider a bit to make your photos pop. Experiment with the Highlights and the Shadows to apply adjustments to the brightest and darkest parts of your image.

Adjust Color

Sometimes the color in your photos may need a little fine-tuning. Tap Color and use incremental adjustments to the Temperature and Tint sliders to create a warmer or cooler image. Use the Saturation and Vibrance sliders to increase or decrease the intensity of the color in your photo. Be careful not to oversaturate your image, as the colors can easily become too intense. For more subtle adjustments, use the Vibrance slider to focus on increasing the intensity of the muted colors in your photo, while leaving the highly saturated colors alone.

Adjust Effects

Some photos contain subtle details that are worth enhancing. Tap Effects, then experiment with the Clarity slider to add (or remove) midtone contrast in the detail edges of your photo. Often this can enhance detail in the textures of the scene. Tap Vignette for controls that allow you to darken or lighten the outer edges of your photo. Move the Vignette slider to the left to darken the edges and put a subtle focus on the subject in the center of the photo.

Undo edits, reset images, and create Versions

To undo changes that you’ve made to your image, tap the Undo icon at the top of the screen (depending on the edits you’ve made, this may appear as a clock icon). In the dropdown menu, tap the smaller Undo icon to undo one step at a time. Once you've undone a step, the Redo icon will appear, allowing you to redo the step. Tap Reset to see options for resetting the image.

Tap Versions to see automatically created versions of your photo based on the edits you’ve made. Tap Named to create a new named version. Versions are an excellent way to creatively explore and save different interpretations of your image.

Press and hold the main image to compare before and after versions of your photo as you edit.

Access your synced photos on your desktop and the web

All edits you make in Lightroom on mobile are reflected in Lightroom on your desktop and Lightroom on the web. Any changes you make in the desktop or web version are automatically synced to the mobile app as well.
