Ink and Slide are designed to work with the iPad 4, iPad Air 1, iPad Mini, or iPad Mini with Retina display. (Note: There is a known, intermittent issue with the iPad Air 2, in which Ink stops drawing mid-stroke.) Ink and Slide are not compatible with iPad Pro or fifth generation and newer iPads.

Adobe Ink connects to Creative Cloud, and lets you carry your favorite drawings, photos, Color themes — even copy and paste artwork —across devices. When Ink is set up and the registration process is completed, the pen is securely associated with your Creative Cloud account.
Yes. Adobe protects the identity of Ink users. During the manufacturing process, each pen is assigned a unique ID. When you sign in to Creative Cloud with Ink using Adobe Illustrator Draw or Adobe Photoshop Sketch, the unique ID of the pen is associated with your Creative Cloud account.
No, Adobe Ink does not have a GPS link.
Cloud Clipboard lets you quickly store and retrieve creative assets—drawings, photos, and your favorited content—using the Pen Tip menu. You can copy content by pressing the Ink’s button while the tip is placed on the screen.
Clipboard contents are displayed in the app drawing view, and you can navigate using touch gestures, by swiping left to right. A quick tap on a piece of content queues it up for pasting.
You can use Adobe Ink and Slide without a Creative Cloud membership. But the Cloud Connected capabilities, such as the Pen Tip menu with access to Color themes, Cloud Clipboard, and sharing to Behance are not available.
The apps that support Ink and Slide—Adobe Illustrator Draw and Adobe Photoshop Sketch—require a Creative Cloud membership. If you don't have a membership, you can sign up for free directly from within the apps.
Ink and Slide can be used with any Creative Cloud account, including both free and paid memberships.
Press and hold the button on Adobe Ink for 3 seconds. The LEDs cycle through a rainbow sequence, while Adobe Ink powers on.
- Open an app that is compatible with Ink and Slide.
- Tap the Pen menu.
- Hold the pen tip to the target on the screen to pair it with your iPad.
The indicator briefly turns green when Adobe Ink connects successfully.
You do not need to pair Slide. Place it on the screen to start using it with any compatible app.
After pairing Adobe Ink with your iPad, connect it to Adobe Creative Cloud and specify your preferences.
- Open an app that is compatible with Ink and Slide.
- Tap the Pen menu.
- Tap Setup Ink.
- Select an identity color on the wheel and tap Next.
- Enter a name for your Adobe Ink. Tap Next.
- Choose an option that indicates how you normally hold Adobe Ink. Tap Next.
- In the Connect to Creative Cloud screen, tap OK, Let's Go.
- A closing screen displays your settings. Tap Close.

The battery status of Adobe Ink is displayed in the connected apps. Tap the Pen status menu to see the battery indicator next to the pen's name. If the battery is too low to operate, the indicator flashes red twice.
It is normally not necessary to turn off Adobe Ink because it goes to sleep automatically. If you do find a need to turn it off, hold the button for 15 seconds or longer without touching the pen tip. The indicator flashes red twice just before the pen shuts off.
Adobe Slide can be used directly from any supported app. You do not need to charge, switch on, or even connect Adobe Slide to an app. Place it on the screen to use it with a compatible app.
Once you've set up Adobe Ink, double-click the Adobe Ink button. The indicator glows with the custom identity color you defined.

Adobe Ink connects to your iPad using Bluetooth 4.0. Connect Adobe Ink using a compatible app, such as Adobe Photoshop Sketch or Adobe Illustrator Draw. If you're having trouble connecting, check the following:
- Adobe Ink is charged and is turned on.
- Your iPad is compatible. For more information, see refer to the hardware and software compatibility details at the beginning of this FAQ.
- The app supports Ink and Slide
- Bluetooth is turned on. Try restarting Bluetooth.
- Try connecting a different device to your iPad over Bluetooth to ensure that Bluetooth is working.
- Try connecting Adobe Ink to a different iPad, your friend's perhaps. Adobe Photoshop Sketch and Adobe Illustrator Draw apps are free, so your friend can download them too.
Try restarting both the iPad and Adobe Ink. If you continue facing issues with pairing Adobe Ink and your iPad, contact the Adonit support team at help@adonit.net.
Adobe Ink charges when it is placed in the charging base and is plugged in. The indicator on the charging base pulses red while Adobe Ink is charging. When the battery level is over 80%, the indicator displays a rainbow sequence.
If your Ink is not charging, try the following:
- Check that you've removed the clear protective sticker attached to the back of the pen.
- Check that the USB cable is connected properly.
- Verify that the USB port on your computer or hub is working properly. Try connecting another USB device to verify.
- Try charging via a wall port USB adapter rather than a computer or USB hub.
- Check the USB cable for faults. Try using a cable from another device, such as a phone or camera.

Adobe Slide does not require charging.
Adobe Ink uses your iPad Wi-Fi or cellular data connection to communicate with Adobe Creative Cloud. Try the following:
- Check that you can access Creative Cloud from your iPad. If you're unable to connect to the website, there could an issue with your Internet connection.
- Sign in to the Creative Cloud website with your Adobe ID. If you need help with your Adobe ID and password, see Adobe ID Help.
If you can successfully sign in to the Creative Cloud website but are still unable to link Adobe Ink with your Creative Cloud account, contact Adobe Support.
There is a known, intermittent issue with the iPad Air 2, in which Ink stops drawing mid-stroke. After thorough investigation, we suspect the solution will require involvement from Apple, and we are trying to work with them to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.
