As of September 15 2017, Adobe Creative Cloud apps now rely on your operating system (OS) to decode/encode Dolby Digital and Dolby Digital Plus audio formats. Adobe no longer bundles the native libraries from Dolby with Creative Cloud products.

For information about how this change affects Dolby audio playback in your product, see Adobe Creative Cloud apps use native OS support for Dolby.

The Adobe Media Encoder June 2015 release has many new and updated features including Time Tuner, which enables you to remove frames and automatically adjust the overall duration your video without afecting the overall quality of the video. You will also find a new preference to control the brightness and a new QuickTime rewrap preset. Read on to learn more about the latest features and updates.

There is a new Time Tuner effect in the Effects tab under Export Settings that enables the user to change the duration of the video upto +/- 5% without any noticeable artifacts. In many cases,  you can adjust upto +/- 10% with very high-quality results.

The Time Tuner effect lets you automatically adjust the overall duration of your video by adding or removing frames at scene changes, in sections with still images or low visual activity, and during quiet audio passages.

You can adjust the following settings when using this effect:

  1. Target Duration - You can specify a relative percentage value (of the source duration) or choose a specific target duration for your output.
  2. Preset Format - This control determines how the settings will be applied to the video sources of varying length. For example, if you want the Time Tuner effect to shorten all sources by –5%, set Preset Format to Change. Else, if you want all sources to be stretched or shortened to a specific duration, set Preset Format to Target Duration.

Miscellaneous updates

Updated Appearance settings

There are the two new sliders under Preferences > Appearance to control the brightness of the blue interactive controls and focus indicator lines.

Import files as Image Sequence

If the selected file appears to be part of a sequence (i.e. has a number in the file name) then the Import Image Sequence option is automatically selected. This is similar to the way Premiere Pro enables or disables the Import Image Sequence checkbox.

See the Import images as a sequence section in Premiere Pro for information about importing still-images as a sequence.

New QuickTime Rewrap preset

This preset automatically matches the codec for supported formats, such as, DV, Cineform and ProRes if the source format is either QuickTime or MXF. This matching is in addition to doing a match source for the basic video settings. If there is a match, then the source will be smart rendered.

Dolby Digital multi-channels

You now have support for including Dolby Digital multi-channels up to 7.1 ch depending on the number of channels in source audio file. In order to export into 7.1 channel stream(?), a source audio needs to have 8 ch or more. For 5.1, a source audio needs to have 6 ch and more. More than 5.1 channels  is supported only in Dolby Digital Plus.

Import and export JPEG2000 MXF OP1a files

You can now import and export JPEG2000 MXF OP1a files. When exporting, select the JPEG2000 MXF OP1a format and adjust your settings as desired.

You can also use the available presets to import and export to JPEG2000 MXF OP1a files. The presets are set to match the source material for settings such as frame size, frame rate, and aspect ratio. The presets are found in the following location:

Mac ‐ /Users/<username>/Documents/Adobe/Adobe Media Encoder/9.0/Presets

Win ‐ C:\Users\<username>\Documents\Adobe\Adobe Media Encoder\9.0\Presets
