Issues

Images uploaded to Scene7 look different from the originals. They are either too dark or too light.

Solution

Image quality/color issues

Change your Color Management settings by following these directions:

  1. Setup > Application Setup > Publish Setup > Image Server.
  2. Scroll toward the bottom, and look for the Color Management Attributes section.
  3. Select the default Color Profiles under "CYMK Default Color Space" and "RGB Default Color Space." These settings are the color profiles that the Image Server uses if no other color profile is specified.
  4. Click Save.
  5. Run a Publish job.

You can choose the Color Profiles that correspond with your own company's/industry's standards. The color profiles available in SPS reflect the default color profiles you find in Photoshop and other Adobe products. If you're not sure which to choose, these settings are what we typically assign companies when we set up their account. They deliver the most consistent results:

CMYK Default Color Space: U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) v2
RGB Default Color Space: sRGB IEC61966-2.1

Color is off in CMYK EPS images

Vector-based CMYK EPS files use a setting on the Application General Settings page when using the "Use default Color behavior" upon upload. The settings are listed in the Upload to Application section under Default Color Profiles, and are called Source color profile and Internal color profile. If the internal color profile is set to RGB, the application that converts the file from EPS to TIF is doing a naive translation from CMYK to RGB. The work-around is to make sure to keep both the color profile settings as CMYK, such as U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) v2.
