Adobe Experience Manager 6.2 Forms includes several new features and enhancements that further streamline and enhance creation, publishing, and working with forms, documents, and correspondences.

Read on for details.

Simplified Authoring of Forms and Documents

There are several new features and enhancements made in this release to simplify the authoring of adaptive forms and documents to help reduce your time to market and enable business users to work with forms and documents.

Touch-optimized user interface

You can now author adaptive forms using the new, simpler, intuitive, and responsive touch-optimized user interface.

See Introduction to authoring adaptive forms.

With AEM Forms, you can create themes and apply them to your forms. A theme contains styling details for components and panels, and you can reuse a theme on different forms. You can specify styles for a component, or modify CSS properties for various components used across your application. Styles include properties such as background colors, state colors, transparency, and size. When you add the theme to your form, the specified style reflects on corresponding components of your form. While AEM Forms provides out-of-the-box themes that you can use on your forms, you can create your own custom themes. In addition, you can configure different appearances for a form element on different devices.

See AEM Forms Themes.

Rule editor is more powerful and easier to use

Rule editor introduces support for complex rules, drag-drop blocks of conditions, copy-paste rules, and web-services to populate fields:

  • You can build complex rules to make adaptive components and forms fields dynamic. Rules support multiple as well as nested AND and OR operators.
  • Apart from the out-of-the-box functions such as Sum of, that are listed under Functions Output, you can now write custom functions that you frequently need.
  • Rule editor not only provides a developer-friendly code editor, it offers a business-user-friendly visual editor as well. You can visually edit rules and drag-and-drop blocks of conditions within a rule to change their positions. The options available for a form object (drop-down, radio button, or check box) are pre-populated in the visual rule editor when you create a rule for that form object.
  • Rule editor allows you to copy and paste rules from one field to another.
  • You can pre-configure a web service for an adaptive form to pull web service's information in the form’s rules. The pre-configured web service is available for the author in the visual editor to use in the rules.
  • The visual rule editor displays the hierarchy of form objects in the left pane. You can click a form object in the left pane to view and edit existing rules or create new rule for the form object.
  • Rules support operators such as has selected, is after, and is before.

See Adaptive Forms Rule Editor and Pre-configure a web service in rule editor to populate form objects.

Adaptive forms and documents in AEM Mobile Apps

You can now embed adaptive forms and documents in the app you create using AEM Mobile. AEM Mobile lets you port your web content authored in AEM to mobile devices. You can port your site pages, assets, and templates on iOS and Android.

See Adaptive Forms and Documents in AEM Mobile.

New components for adaptive forms

Several new adaptive forms components, such as Date input field, Numeric Stepper, Image Choice, and Switch are available out-of-the-box in the components browser for use in adaptive forms.

See Introduction to authoring adaptive forms.

Adaptive form or document in AEM Sites page

AEM allows you to seamlessly embed adaptive Forms and documents in AEM sites pages. Your customers can interact, fill, and submit the form in context and without leaving the site page. You can also configure to show a message or an AEM page to acknowledge the form submission. Adaptive documents are personalized and responsive statements or correspondences that support user interaction and analytics.

See Embed adaptive form or document in AEM sites page.

Creating an adaptive form using a set of adaptive forms

You can now embed an adaptive form inside another adaptive form to reuse existing form content and build a large form. When you add an adaptive form to another form, it is added as a panel (child form). You add a set of child forms to create a parent form. You can show or hide panels based on user input. Buttons in the parent form, such as Submit and Reset, override the buttons in the child form. To add an adaptive form in the parent form, drag-drop the adaptive form from the Assets Browser.

See Create an Adaptive Form using a set of Adaptive Forms.

AEM translation workflow to localize adaptive forms

Localized adaptive forms help you serve a wider audience across geographies. You can automate translation process of adaptive forms. AEM Forms supports both human and machine translation workflows:

Human translation: In Human translation the content is sent to a translation provider and translated by professional translators. You can integrate translation providers with AEM to automate communication between AEM Forms and the translation providers.

Machine translation: The machine translation service immediately translates your content. AEM provides connectors for a few machine translation services. You can also develop your own connectors.

See Using AEM translation workflow to localize adaptive forms.

Template Editor

A template helps you standardize and implement best practices in your organization. You can now create templates for adaptive forms using the new template editor. It allows you to specify the  structure and initial content of an adaptive form. For example, you want all form authors to have few text boxes, navigation buttons, and a submit button in an enrollment form. You can create a template that authors can use to create a form that is consistent with other enrollment forms. AEM Template Editor lets you:

  • Add header and footer components of a form in the structure layer
  • Provide the initial content for the form.
  • Specify a theme.
  • Specify actions such as submit, reset, and navigate.

See Template Editor

Improvements in AEM Forms App

There are several enhancements in AEM Forms app to make your field workforce more productive and efficient.

Support for stand-alone forms

With this release, you can get stand-alone forms into AEM Forms app without requiring a forms workflow deployment.

See Using autosave in AEM Forms app.

Saving a task or form as a draft

The save as draft option saves a snapshot of a task or form along with the data filled to the associated form. The drafts are saved to the mobile device and synced with AEM Forms server for a later retrieval.

See Saving a task or form as a draft.

Save forms as templates

At times, a few fields of a form can warrant identical values for every instance of a form. For such instances, you can fill the fields that require identical values in every instance, and save the form as a template. Now, every time you create a template, the specified fields already have values and data specified in the template. It helps you save time and effort required to fill the form.

See Save forms as templates.
