Answer
Default naming is helpful if you want to create many image set recipes for the same group of assets. Consider building a number of sets with different names and sequences. It's a way to store the base name and match rules so you don't have to re-create them for each Batch Set Preset (BSP).

There are some problems with the SPS Batch Set Preset user interface that can lead to confusing results. IT does not impact the batch set preset, however. In many cases, the user interface can't properly parse the batch set preset that was previously entered. The result at the bottom should be correct even if the user interface components do not properly present it. It was likely it was nicely formatted when the batch set preset was first created.
Answer
The batch set presets only apply when images are uploaded. Any changes to the names of assets within SPS doesn't affect generated sets.
