The visitor ID reaches Adobe Analytics using the following steps.

  1. The first time a user reaches your site, a cookie (labeled s_vi) receives an assigned value containing a unique visitor ID. This visitor ID is in base 16, meaning it can contain 0-9 and A-F.
  2. This data is transferred to Adobe Analytics, which is then converted to base 10.
  3. Depending on if an s.visitorID is manually set or a custom visitor ID is used (commonly in mobile application implementation), it identifies a unique visitor. If a custom visitor ID is present, Analytics always uses this value over default visitor IDs.
