Follow the steps below to disable updates for the Creative Cloud products and disable the Apps panel within the Creative Cloud Desktop application.  All serialized packages should have these steps performed after October 15, 2018.  All products released after that date use a newer licensing model that does not support serialized licensing.  We do not recommend including the Creative Cloud Desktop application in serialized deployments, although the steps will assist you in disabling the Apps panel within CCD.   

Updates can be disabled when creating a package for installation.  These steps will disable the updates after deployment.  You must be a local administrator to complete these steps.  System administrators can push the files below using management tools such as SCCM, Casper, or ARD.

Disable updates

When the Creative Cloud Desktop is not installed but updates are enabled, a legacy update manager will display when going to Help > Update. This process will disable the legacy update manager.

  1. Using Notepad (Windows) or TextEdit (Mac,) create a text file with the following information:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
  2. Save the file as AdobeUpdaterAdminPrefs.dat.
  3. Place the file in the following location:
    • Windows
      \Program files(x86)\common files\adobe\AAMUpdaterInventory\1.0\
    • Macintosh
      /Library/Application Support/Adobe/AAMUpdaterInventory/1.0/

Disable the Apps panel

The Apps panel is the tool for enabling product installs and updates of the Creative Cloud products for named user licensing.  We do not recommend using this product with serialized licensing.  The steps below will remove the Apps panel from the Creative Cloud Desktop application.

Verify the ServiceConfig.xml, detailed below, does not exist before creating a new one.  If the file exists, ensure the visible tag under AppsPanel says false.  Leave all other data untouched in the file.

  1. Using Notepad (Windows) or TextEdit (Mac,) create a text file with the following information:

  3. Place the file in the following location:
    • Windows
      \Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\OOBE\Configs\
    • Mac
      /Library/Application Support/Adobe/OOBE/Configs/
