Knowing the origin of any displayed Touch UI elements on a page in real time

AEM 6 comes today with an integrated Developer Mode, available when authoring any page.

See .

One interesting feature while displaying an AEM Page with the developer mode selected, is the ability to select any component on your page, and see instantly in the left panel, the content path and script(s) linked to the component.

However, this information is not available in Edit or Preview mode, nor in other screens like admin consoles, editors, etc..

The XRay tool is a simple package to install on your AEM Instance, that will give you the possibilty to simply add an "XRay" layer on top of any Touch UI page, that will provide information (content path, script(s), direct link to CRXDE Lite) on all components rendered on the page.

Once the package is installed, go to /etc/xraymode/setup.html and follow the instructions there to enable the x-ray mode .

Remark : the path to the script returned by XRay might start with /mnt/overlay or /mnt/override .

This is due to the Touch-optimized UI leveraging the Sling Resource Merger to allow fine grained overlays of components and their dialog, see .

In this case, in a standard AEM installation, you should replace those prefix or /apps or /libs , depending on the status of your customizations , in order to access the right nodes in CRXDE Light .
