Key changes in Meeting Launch and Recording Playback workflows with Adobe Connect 11.2

Changes that Adobe Connect administrators, hosts, and participants must be aware of for a seamless HTML transition.

What's changing in Meeting launch workflow?

After the Adobe Connect 11.2 upgrade, meetings must occur in either Standard view or Classic view. The option to have a mix of interfaces within a single meeting room will no longer be available.

While Hosts can better prepare and deliver meetings, the content will display consistently for all users. Each user has the same user interface and experience. The same Connect capabilities will be available everyone. Moreover, potential problems associated with support for hybrid content or translating data will be eliminated.

A new set of configuration options will be available at the account level and at each individual room level. Account admins or Hosts can now choose one of these options.

  • Standard view: In this mode, the meeting room lets users join from the HTML client in browser or new desktop applications only. Users who join using browsers are taken to the HTML client (if the desktop applications are not installed). Users on legacy browsers or older desktop application are prompted to either join from a modern browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge) or upgrade to the latest desktop application. Mobile users can also join using the current mobile apps.
  • Standard view with Enhanced Audio: In this mode, Opus audio codec is used in meeting rooms to provide enhanced audio experience for attendees. Only users joining from modern browsers in HTML client or new desktop applications are able to join this mode. Mobile users won't be able to join using the current mobile apps.
  • Classic view: In this mode, the meeting room will allow the users to join from desktop application only. The users joining through browsers are asked to install/join using desktop application. Mobile users can also join using the current mobile apps.

Accounts administrators can choose either of the above settings for all the rooms in an account. Alternatively, they can let Hosts decide the best option for their rooms.

Review the following table to understand the user experience under various settings.

What's changing in Recording playback workflow?

See the table below to understand the changes in recording playback workflow.

Recordings between Adobe Connect 9.0 and 11.2
Recordings post Adobe Connect 11.2

By default, all Recordings between Adobe Connect 9.0 and 11.2 will open in the Standard view and can be switched to Classic view.

Exception: Any flash-based content will not be visible in the Standard view.

All recordings post 11.2 release will open in the Standard view. The Recordings can be switched to Classic view.

Exception: Only the recordings with Enhanced audio cannot be switched to Classic view.

MP4 Conversion

All current recordings, regardless of the room setting (Standard or Classic), can be converted to an MP4 video file using the Make Offline conversion feature. To use this feature, the recording owner must have the Adobe Connect application installed. The resulting MP4 file will display the Classic user interface in the recording.

Note: Any new HTML-only content shared in the meeting (HTML-only Custom Pods) will not be displayed in the MP4 recording.

Exception: Adobe will introduce a new audio codec in 11.2 that the Classic view can't support. Therefore it cannot be converted into an MP4 recording. For now, these recordings will only be available online using the Standard app or a browser. If offline recordings (MP4 videos) are required, Adobe recommends not using enhanced audio in meetings. Adobe is working on a new recording converter that will allow recordings with enhanced audio to be taken offline.
